Edited default header – site won’t update

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I used the site editor to change my theme’s default header to something that works better with the topic of my blog. Unfortunately, my site still shows the old header, even on a device I hadn’t previously visited the site on.

Is there some other place besides template parts -> header large where the bird image and hatchery text is stored in the 2022 theme?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I’m not familiar with that option for changing the header image, but regardless of the theme applied you may change the header image at Customize > Header Image.

I believe you are referencing the wordpress.org (aka self hosted) version of WordPress. At this time I am using the free wordpress.com.

I wasn’t referencing a WordPress.org version of the theme. The ability to change the header image is available on free WordPress.com sites, for every theme that allows header images, at Customize > Header Images.

The relevant support page is titled Upload a Header Image.

I think I have not explained well. I’m not trying to add a header, I’m trying to alter the default one. I already used the site editor to make the changes to the large header template part, and that propagated through MOST of the templates that use it. There is one page though nightshift knitter blog where the default still shows up. I need to remove/change the text and remove the bird, as my site has nothing to do with birdwatching. Unfortunately, it looks like the blog template doesn’t actually use the Header Large template part. So, how do I edit the “Blog” template?

I mentioned the “Upload a Header Image” support page because it includes the section Upload a Header Image Using the Customizer. Instructions provided there apply to replacing header images, either default ones or those created previously by yourself. At Customize > Header Images, you may perform various tasks involving header images including hide the header image, add an image that will either replace a default header image or replace a previously uploaded custom image. You may also add multiple custom header images, and chose to display multiple header images (either the suggested ones or the custom images that you’ve uploaded) randomly.

However, if you are trying to alter, via the Site Editor, an existing header image without replacing it, then I don’t know how that works. Let me call for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here.

Staff attention is what I needed, as I believe there is a bug in either the 2022 theme, or the site editor/customizer.

Thank you for trying, however, I managed to find very affordable hosting, and as such, have given up on trying to force this to work properly, and have moved on to .org where I can do my own theme.

  • Hi! This particular theme just has a lot of parts to it, and a few with the bird motif. Can you make sure you’ve edited the template part Header Dark Large?

  • Also, just as a note on the hosting, our paid plans include SSL hosting as well as direct staff support (usually via chat), maintenance, security, spam filtering, backups, and several other services. And you can indeed modify that header, even on a site with a Personal plan. Let us know if you have questions.
