Editing

    Hi,

I am unable to edit my blog because it has suddenly become extremely slow. Any change I make hangs for several minutes before appearing on the screen.

It was fine till recently. My other blog seems to be ok.

    Could someone help please?

    Thanks & regards.

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

Is there something in particular you’re trying to do that’s resulting in this lag to appear?

We’ll try and see if we can replicate this, but from the get go, I can see that the theme is retired and no longer supported: https://wordpress.com/theme/misty-lake/ so it could be a case whereby the functionality of the theme has run its course.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Oh…I didn’t know that the theme had something to do with it.

The blog is fairly new and I keep editing and adding to it. The problem has been there only for a couple of weeks.

Should I change the theme and see if it improves?

    Thanks once again.

    Regards

To add to the above…. I am not trying to do anything in particular except normal editing of words….adding and deleting here and there. I am also adding a few new chapters to the blog…but it was fine till recently.

It seems to be ok when I edit the first few chapters but slows down significantly when I try to scroll down and try to edit the later chapters.

  • I had a look at your blog, and I think what you described has to do with the length of your post rather than with the theme.
It looks like you’re adding the chapters to the same blog post, which makes it very long. The more data it contains, the longer it will take to load, especially on slower internet connections.
I’d suggest adding each chapter as a new, independent blog post instead.

A retired theme can also potentially cause some issues, but it doesn’t seem to be a culprit here.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Yes…its possibly the length. I’ll see how each chapter can be made into a separate post.

    Thanks & regards.

  • I’ll see how each chapter can be made into a separate post.

Probably the most straightforward solution would be to copy each chapter, create a new post, paste the content and publish. After you’ve made sure everything is in its place, you can then remove the additional chapters from the original post. I’d recommend opening your WordPress.com account in two different tabs; it will make the whole process easier :)

    Hi,

Yes…I thought of that and also tried it with the first chapter. It can be done.

But I want each of the chapters to appear alongside the Home page one after the other. I had done that in my other blog tsriramrao.wordpress.com where all the posts appear on the side and people can choose what they want to read….but I am not sure how to do it now.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks & Regards.

  • There are two ways to have your posts visible on your homepage. You can either just display your blog there, or create a static page with a Blog Posts block in it. Here’s some more information about the different options:

You could also consider adding the chapters to your menu so that your visitors can choose which one they’d like to open:

Thanks a lot! I’ll go through the sites and try them.
