editing

It used to be that I could edit our site (and https://econoclastic.blog/). Now I can’t do it. What happened? Did we give you money and get nothing in return?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

    Hi there,
Are you able to access your wp-admin?
And if you do, what is that that you want to edit and can’t?

  • Unknown's avatar

what is wp-admin? It used to be that I didn’t have to use that. All I did was log in and then let my mouse hover and a little box with an “edit” button would pop up.

Ok, so yes, you can login.
What specifically would you like to change?
Im seeing your page right now. Would like to add a new post?

@jdevine03 – the site econoclastic.blog is associated with a different WordPress.com user account than the one you’re currently logged into. You would need to log out of jdevine03 and into the account that owns econoclastic.blog in order to edit your site.

Since there’s a paid upgrade on that account from March 2022, you can find the transaction IDs from those charges and use the Account Recovery form to prove ownership of the site, then WordPress.com support can help you from there. You can find that form here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Just fill out as much information as you have, including an email address where Support can get in touch. The transaction ID will be on your bank statement as WordPress followed by a letter/number code. They’ll look like this:

    WordPress XXXXXXXXXX

You can read more about what the account recovery process entails here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

    I hope that helps!

The confusion seems to have arisen because we have two WordPress sites: econoclastic.com and laasperger.wordpress.com. I believe that they have different usernames. (I think that they’re both on wordpress.org rather than on wordpress.com.)

(By the way, I know how to log into WordPress (when it works), but how do you log out? by restarting your PC?)

Currently, WordPress does not recognize the Jdevine03, (email visible only to moderators and staff), or the LAASPSG username, so I can’t log in. (It doesn’t say “wrong password” — but instead “we don’t recognize you!” or “The username field is empty.”)
I thought I had the LAASPSG site (laasperger.wordpress.com) fixed so I could edit it, but then perhaps because I tried to get access to the econoclastic.com website (signing up for duo authentication, etc.), I lost access to laasperger.wordpress.com.

I was thinking that it might be easier to shut down one or both of the two websites and then start from scratch. Or maybe I can find an alternative to WordPress and start from scratch there. (Unlike most websites I’ve seen, you don’t have log in and log out buttons.)

    Please help!

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for that additional information.

So to help explain the situation.

econoclastic.com – is not hosted with WordPress.com, is hosted with another provider. To sign into this site, you would need to go to econoclastic.com/wp-admin.

laasperger.wordpress.com – this is hosted with WordPress.com. This would be a completely separate site to the above.

(By the way, I know how to log into WordPress (when it works), but how do you log out? by restarting your PC?)

It’s possible to sign out of WordPress.com via the account page here: https://wordpress.com/me/account

I was thinking that it might be easier to shut down one or both of the two websites and then start from scratch. Or maybe I can find an alternative to WordPress and start from scratch there. (Unlike most websites I’ve seen, you don’t have log in and log out buttons.)

With a “starting from scratch” mindset – what are you looking to do/build exactly? I’ll happily offer more advice.
