Editing a category

  I’ve read the help section for categories. I want to rename my category. I clicked “quick edit”, when I rename it, it gives me this message:

  “The slug “……” is already in use by another term”

  What does that mean?
  Should it be this difficult?

  Probably that you’ve used the same word or phrase as a tag too – which is wrong.

  For search engines and for the global WP tag pages, tags and categories are exactly the same thing, so there’s no point using the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category, plus you run into technical problems when you do that.

  Ideally you should delete all the duplicate tags/categories and add them again as either tags or categories.
