Editing a reblog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried my first re-blog today and was disappointed to discover that apparently some editing features don’t work. Smilies didn’t turn into icons and the page break doesn’t seem to function. That latter one is important to me. Is there a way to get a page break in the new text of a reblog post?

    thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can go back and edit the comments you left when you reblogged a post, but you cannot edit any parts of the original post excerpt (including the post title). If you like, you can add categories or tags to the post. Reblogs show up under Posts -> All Posts in your dashboard, and they can be edited the same way you edit your own posts.

You can read more about Reblogs at http://en.support.wordpress.com/reblogs/

True, but smilies don’t work and neither does the page break. That’s my concern. Editing the reblogged article is not a concern.

I went back and edited an older post and the re-blog. Smilies work in the older post, but not in the reblog.

I always use a page break, which always works fine, but not in the reblog.

Also, I noticed that, at first, it wasn’t even honoring the paragraph breaks and was combining all text into a single graph. I went back and used P tags to get the paragraphs — normally I don’t have to do that.

It seems like the reblog new text doesn’t follow the same rules as a regular new post?

Just to be sure, are you referring to an extra page break between the “read more” and the “Ah, it’s that time of year again,” text at http://logosconcarne.com/2013/10/21/the-truth-about-gourdians-3/ ?

It’s the page break that’s after the paragraph, “Ah, it’s that time of year again.” I can see it in the HTML when I view the page, but no break occurs when viewing a list of articles.

I took a look at the entire HTML of the article. There’s the ‘entry’ DIV block, which contains two DIV blocks: ‘reblog-post’ and ‘reblogger-note’. The latter contains the new text (and the desired page break). When you referred to an “extra” page break, I wondered if the “Read more” was using up the page break, but that doesn’t seem the case. It seems more based on the use of recognized DIV or P blocks?

Regardless, it seems that a reblog post is indeed quite different from a “normal” post. I noticed my new post text shows up in my Comments section. It’s kinda got one foot in both worlds! Blog text and comment text. Maybe that explains the behavior?

I was able to reproduce the issue and reported this to our developers. We’ll contact you once we know more.

I noticed my new post text shows up in my Comments section.

An excerpt of your post will be published on the reblogger’s site (with a link back to your original post), and you’ll receive a reblog notification in the post comments (you might need to approve the comment first).

Cool, excellent, thank you! In the meantime, I’ll just understand that’s the way it is.

    Enjoy the day!
