Editing a user role

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to allow a Contributor to upload photos but not publish a post. I see a Plugin that will allow me to do that, but I do not know if Plugins work for WordPress.com. Do they? And if they don’t, is there a way for me to edit the user role?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid you can’t install your own plugins here for security reasons. There’s also not a user role that sits in between contributor and author as you’ve described it. They would either be allowed to publish posts (good if you trust the other person not to do so) or aren’t allowed to upload images (for if you’re more security conscious and don’t mind them emailing you the images and uploading yourself). Sorry it isn’t better news!

From what I’ve read over the last several minutes, there’s no way to fine-tun the User Roles beyond what is defined in the User Roles support doc:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

Third Party plugins do NOT work on WordPress.COM, only on self-hosted sites (WordPress.ORG).

Perhaps for a workaround, you could keep the user as a Contributor and wherever they want images, insert them via a link to CloudUp or similar sharing service?
