editing a wordpress.com blog locally

  this has probably been answered a million times over, but i can’t seem to find out for sure.

  is there any way that i can edit my wordpress.com blog locally on my (mac) computer, or can you only do that with your own domain and the wordpress.org download?

  i’ve got the $15 css package, but i would much rather be able to edit the theme locally…

  You can’t edit the theme locally at WP.com. You can write CSS as a text file, but I don’t think you can test it offline.

  Can we have a link to your blog please?

  The answer is tending towards no…but there may be a solution depending on your theme.

  You could grab a random test blog, pay the 15 for it too, and then use it as your Testbed.

  i’ve been bouncing theme to theme looking for more customization options.

  currently i have the k2-lite theme on.

  seems like the answer to testing offline is ‘no,’ though.

  Actually, you can…but it is rather involved.

  Get WordPress from WordPress.org

  Download MAMP or WEMP

  http://blogbuildingu.com/wordpress/install-wordpress-wlmp

  http://blogbuildingu.com/wordpress/install-wordpress-wemp

  http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress_Locally_on_Your_Mac_With_MAMP

  Install WordPress on your local machine

  Upload the Sandbox theme from http://www.plaintxt.org/themes/sandbox/

  Install the k2 CSS skin for sandbox. http://almosteffortless.com/2006/08/12/k2-lite-for-sandbox/ or maybe http://getk2.com/2006/08/k2-plays-in-sandbox/

  Now you can edit your theme locally.

  This solution may be more trouble than it is worth…but it is a solution. :)

  I have the wordpress.ORG software installed locally on my Mac using MAMP ( http://michaeldoig.net/4/installing-wordpress-locally-using-mamp.htm ) and use it for working offline on customizing my .ORG blog. Since there differences in the themes here at .COM, and the same themes for .ORG, it isn’t really going to help you much really, and there are several themes available here that don’t have a .ORG theme equivalent.
