Editing backup files with WP editor

Our company website needs a revamp, including some new copy, new pages and consolidation of pages. I would like to not do this on the live site, for fear of making a catastrophic blunder. We have backed up the website to a shared drive, but I can’t figure out how to use the WordPress editor on the backed up files. Is there a way to do this?
