Editing CSS
-
Hello fellow bloggers,
I’m new to blogging and was wondering if it’s possible to use a new theme just by copying CSS code. I hope that isn’t a dumb question but I know nothing about CSS even tho I can write HTML “manually” (without using an html editor). Thanks in advance, Kell

The css is only the stylesheet. The upgrade is not recommended to those without css editing experience. There is no staff support. Sometimes bloggers with css experirnce drop in and help on an unpredictable and occasional basis. This FAQs entry is helpful http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/about-the-custom-css-upgrade/

More information including pre-done css skins that you can use can be found here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum.php?id=3&page

Typically you cannot copy the CSS of one theme and use it on another because the basic elements in the html files will be different. People have tried this and it doesn’t work.
CSS style sheets are designed to work with a specific theme. There are however quite a few “skins” available for the Sandbox theme and there might be one that you would like.
I don’t have all the links so I’m hoping maybe timethief or someone else will pop in with them.

And once you have a ‘skin’ you like, they’re fairly easy to customize. Try the ‘Kubrick for Sandbox skin here, for instance: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=3248&page&replies=23

Oh and, if you’re not sure about CSS, it’s really worth playing around with the Preview feature before deciding whether or not to spend the money. You can see the results of your CSS, you just can’t save them.

I don’t think I’ve heard of any skins yet that have been developed for the Misty Look theme that this blogger is using but perhaps other bloggers do know of some and would like to share http://sugarchick.wordpress.com/

/nod to rosclarke and timethief
If one had a little CSS editing experience, the Mistylook CSS is pretty clean and well organized (in my humble, less than guru opinion). I guess as with any theme, it depends on how much one wants to do. And as rosclarke says, you can try out little bits and then keep saving the little bits to a text file until you have what you want.
