Editing font size in tables
-
Whilst using blocks to make a table, I am unable to change the font size of the table using the ‘typography’ option on the right-hand side menu. This means the table often ends up unreadable or with overly long rows. Some editing font sizes does work, but only shows a change in the live edit mode – not the reader’s view.
I have found an article online that shows HTML edits can be successful however this is difficult to do with each table. Are there any other ways? Using the available block functions does not seem successful.
As an aside, tables often have empty spaces where I can click on and have my cursor present. However, deleting them or removing them alters the text or removes the text.

Hi,
Cannot change font size on either of the tables linked. However, the second link contains the table with black spaces that cannot be deleted.
Thanks.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that additional information.
You should be able to change the font size as seen here:
It looks like there’s soft return above the text in the cells there, I am able to delete these. What are you experiencing exactly when deleting these?

Hi,
As detailed, we are able to change the font size in live edit mode. However when we save changes, no change is made on the reader’s copy. As in, the reader’s copy has the same sized font as if no change was made.
Re the soft space. When deleting this, the font in the cells changes colour and loses formatting – e.g. from red to black.

Many thanks for that additional clarification, I’ve just changed the font and I can see that this is reflected when visiting the site.
Are you able to replicate this yourself, or has this been reported to you from someone who is viewing the site?
If this isn’t present, I would recommend clearing the browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

I can replicate this – how was this added originally? I suspect this formatting may need to be re-added.

Thanks for the above. I have been informed that the editing does not show in readers view by someone I am supporting. This was also demonstrated to me – changes available on the edit but not reflected in viewing the blog.
The spaces were added automatically when converting from classic edit to a block style. As in, they were not put in by anyone but appeared once converted to blocks.
We have encountered another problem in which we cannot edit the width of cells. Is there a way we can do this?

From what I can see you have set your font size (in the table) to 14px, but on the live site it is displaying at the default size of 18px. After some testing I see that this is related to your theme (Twenty Twentyone) and for some reason it is ignoring the custom font size setting.
I’ve reported this to our developers to investigate and fix, but for now there is no workaround I can think of to force the custom font size to show.

Did you happen to be copying and pasting your content from another source originally, such as a Word Doc, email, or another website? I’ve looked at the revision history for this page and it appears that all the initial content was added as a paste operation. Thanks for the additional info!

Hi,
Thanks for your support – I will also try clearing the cache as noted above.
I’m not sure if it was pasted. It may well have been!
