Editing Formats

I wish you wouldn’t change the WordPress format every week – keep that up and I’ll go elsewhere. I’d like to spend my time blogging, not trying to chase down how to find disappeared features that I’ve been using all along! My blog depends on Categories, and Categories have now disappeared from the New-Post editing screen. Can you put them back, or should I look for another blog platform?

Screen options! Who’d have “thunk” it! Thanks very much, eurello! Today I have my “trusty old” New-Post editor that I’ve been using all along. The other day, when I yelled HELP!!! the only thing I could get was a horrible wide-screen editor that I really hope is not what you plan to use in the future. I don’t know if there were any “screen options” on that screen; I fished around for some way to restore Categories but didn’t find anything. I was also unable to find a way to get back to the old editor that day; it’s reappeared since, thank goodness!! That day I had to write in MSWord then copy it all into the editor, then screw around with Update four or five times (including another copy when the text disappeared) to get everything the way I would have written it the first time with the “old” editor. If that wide-screen editor becomes the only option, I’ll go back to html – it’s easier.

You can upload it to your blog’s Media Library and I can look at it there.

Thanks! The screen I got stuck in and couldn’t get out of was the ,png at “Picture 2” in my astrobuss Media Library. Today I can back out of it; for some reason that day I couldn’t find the combination to get any other new-post screen.

Ah, ok. Categories don’t appear on that post editor. If you want to add categories, you need to compose your post in the classic Dashboard here:
https://astrobuss.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpOr you can compose your post at the New Post screen, then save it as a draft, and then edit it and add your categories from the classic Dashboard and publish.
To navigate from the New Post screen to the classic Dashboard, either click on “My Blogs” or hover over your Gravatar in the upper right-hand corner of the admin bar and click on your blog name in the menu that drops down below it.

Great! Many thanks, eurello!! I’m so used to software (and phoneware and entire companies) that don’t seem to have humans connected to them that I just assume these days that there is no actual HELP available. I’m delighted that WordPress isn’t one of those, and very pleased with your concern and assistance!! Thank you again!
