Editing Header/Footer Not Displaying
-
New site, new theme. I am so frustrated I am regretting every second of this decision to get started. I have the Tenaz theme installed, which I like otherwise BUT. I can’t seem to figure out a way to edit the social media icons at the top OR remove the newsletter box at the bottom. I’m assuming the newsletter box is suck with the theme.
I want to edit the social media buttons at the top. When I go to Appearance > Editor > Library > Headers it LOOKS like it shows up:
But when I select it, and then hit the pencil to edit, it is completely blank (see below image). I cannot access the header to edit it. I need to remove / edit this social media block and this has been sucking up way too much of my time troubleshooting. Any ideas?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having this issue as well. Frustrated because I love this theme, and it takes a long time to set-up everything. So far no solution the invisible header and footer issue. Let me know if you figure it out!
-
Also having this problem. I can’t edit the header *or* the footer to put in my information.
-
Oddly, I’m glad others are having the same issue because I’ve been going through this chaos today.
I managed to add a different footer to other pages, but it just doesn’t change the front page – which is obviously the most important really. It’s also odd how quiet the WP Help has gone in the last couple of days, they’re usually really responsive, so wonder if something else is going on? Related..?
If anyone solves this… that’d be amazing.

Hey friends, I haven’t found a solution with the Tenaz bug, but in case you don’t have the patience to wait for a fix like me, I found that the Canard theme is similar and a good alternative. Biggest thing is it doesn’t support the Editor, but other than that it’s a great magazine/blog-style theme, and easy to set up. Have a great week y’all, good luck.

Hi @argrenier I had a quick look at your site but it doesn’t look like the social media icons are showing there at the moment! Had you been able to remove them?
Between the weekend and quite a few requests coming in we’re still catching up.
With regards to the header pattern, we do have a report open for precisely this issue for now. I don’t know exactly when we’d have a fix for it yet!
But for those of you who would want to possibly use Tenaz and edit the header pattern, I can suggest a temporary workaround – you can create a fresh header template part that is taken straight from the theme, and insert/edit this in your Site Editors.
I’ve copied the basic Tenaz header code and placed it below, in a Code block. Below that, I’ve also inserted the footer in a second Code block. In order to use the Tenaz header on your site, please first copy the code below, then do the following:
- Head into Appearance > Editor > Library and click the ‘+’ button
- Start creating a new Template Part – select the Header section, give it a name, and proceed to the empty new template part
- Paste the copied code into the large editor screen – it should just come up as blocks.
- Save your template part so that you have it available. Now you can modify it and insert it into any template in the Site Editor
You could do the same in order to have the footer too! In case of need, you can find a demonstration video for this at the following link:

Hey, thanks for coming back – this info is useful for the coding but the issue isn’t adding the footer, you literally can’t edit the footer anywhere in the Editor itself.
If you look at http://www.criticalpopcorn.com and scroll to the bottom, the ‘Tenaz….’ intro doesn’t exist when you try to edit it.
I’ve added another footer & moved it above that one, but you can’t edit the header or the footer in the Library, when you click through to it, it’s blank screen – happy to make a video or screenshots if it helps?
Thank you! :) -
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out and persevering with this.
Hey, thanks for coming back – this info is useful for the coding but the issue isn’t adding the footer, you literally can’t edit the footer anywhere in the Editor itself.
Understood – the code above should help with creating new header and footer parts that can be edited.
I’ve added another footer & moved it above that one, but you can’t edit the header or the footer in the Library, when you click through to it, it’s blank screen – happy to make a video or screenshots if it helps?
That’s to say, are you unable to edit new header and footer template parts when you add it them to the editor? A video is always helpful! (we’d really appreciate seeing things through your eyes to help improve.)
Thank you again!
-
Can come back to the video, if needed, no probs.
In essence though, if someone’s able to look at my site, you’ll see the bit I can’t access or edit stuck near the bottom of the main front page.
That writing isn’t anywhere in the editor, nor does it allow you to delete the blank footer in the Library.
it’s almost as if it’s locked/hidden.

Sorry, I was out in about over the weekend. This is the workaround I did. t took me forever to figure it out:
Appearance > Editor > Library > Header > pencil edit icon
Now: Click on the blue + button

This is what’s going to show up. Choose “patterns” and then “header” and then select a header even if the header is the same one that you currently have. I did the same with the footer.

After doing this, the header/footer showed up like they were supposed to.
Thank you everyone who wrote in saying they were having the same problem, it was nice to feel validated that it wasn’t just me! I hope this work around helps.
-
@argrenier I’m sending you the biggest virtual THANK YOU.
Saved my sanity as well, basically that template was pretty much invisible, so after following your guide, I deleted back – even it appears nothing is there, and it did the same as you say above. WooHoo!
:)
