Editing in the Code Editor

I am trying to edit in the Code Editor. If I press a a couple of times in succession on my keyboard in the box containing the code, I’d expect at least one clear line to appear in the code. This doesn’t happen consistently. In addition the cursor position seems suddenly to shift upwards to the top of the box containing the code. Something odd seems to be happening. Is there any explanation for this, please?

Hi I meant to add ‘carriage return’ between the first ‘a’ and the second ‘a’ in the second sentence. It got deleted because I enclosed it in angled brackets. Apologies.

  • Hi @journeyingthroughthebible, thanks for the clarification.

I just tried duplicating this, and I think maybe I can see the same thing: if I add carriage returns after a section closes out, it’s fine. If I try adding carriage returns before a section closes, technically, they’re there, but the page scrolls up. Is that what you’re seeing, too?

    If so, two questions:

    • Would you recall when this started? If you were using it all along and this is a new thing, for example, it could be tied to a recent release and we can trace that back.
    • Can you share what kinds of edits you’re making in the code, so we have more info for a use case in a bug report?

    Thanks in advance!

Hello Thank you for your reply. In answer to your questions:

1 Sometimes carriage returns do open up clear lines, for example at the start of the code, or in one or two places further down. Otherwise, the page scrolls up: however, as long as I move up with the cursor and don’t click outside the box, I find that the clear lines have been created. In either case, when I then scroll up or down using the scroll bar at the side of the box (or click outside the box) the clear lines disappear. Or if there’s not much code, and so no scroll bar exists, if I click outside the box, the clear lines also disappear. I’ve just tried adding new code manually – the code remains, along with the carriage return at the end of the line, but any clear lines disappear.

2 I haven’t tried editing in the Code Editor for some while – certainly several months. I noticed this problem a couple of days back. So it seems to have started within the last few months, perhaps the last year. I’m not able to be more precise, I’m afraid.

3 I was trying to open up a few clear lines (using the carriage return), and then insert a few lines of code into the space. Normally, I either copy and paste the code into a Word document, or create the code from scratch in a Word document. Then I copy and paste from the Word document into the Code Editor. However, in this case, it was easier just to try something out in the Code Editor itself, without using a Word document.

If you could send a bug report and enable this to be fixed, I would really appreciate this. I you’d like me to do any more testing, please let me know

With many thanks and kind regards

    Rob
