Editing links

  I am trying to edit my link categories, de-selecting “official links”, but my changes aren’t being saved.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  Can you let me know where in your settings you’re trying to make that change? Are you editing the category under Links > Link Categories, editing the default category under Settings > Writing, or somewhere else?

  Just to clarify, those are the places where you can edit your link categories themselves. If you’re trying to change what category a link is in, that’s under Links > All Links in the dashboard.

  If that’s where you’re running into trouble, it’s because you need to have one default link category for your site — right now, that’s “Official Links.” Any link that isn’t specifically assigned to another category will go in that default category. You can create a new link category and make that one the default if you don’t want to use the “Official Links” category anymore.

  I’ve used the link editing function to try to de-select “Official Link” for some of my links so that I can restrict what is displayed on the front end to our current projects, but I can’t get those changes to be saved. It looks like a bug.

  Just tried it again and the problem persists. I’m in the Links editing window. I select a link and click on “Edit”, then I uncheck the “Official Links” check box and hit “Update” which brings me back to the list of all links. The link I just unchecked is still shown as an Official Link.

  Thanks for clarifying that for me. In that case, the issue is that “Official Links” is set as the default category for your links. You can view and change that default link category under Settings > Writing in your site’s dashboard.

  Links have to have a category, so if you don’t have any category selected it will default to your default link category. (That’s why “Official Links” keeps being re-selected when you save the links.) If you don’t want to use that category, you’ll need to create a new link category and set the other links to that category instead.
