Editing Menu Default

For some reason I do NOT understand the editing menu does not automatically expand? For ten years now, when I went to edit/creat new entry, the editing icons were on two lines. Now, ALL OF A SUDDEN, I have to go to the menu and select EXPAND editing menu? It’s a real pain… What changed? How do I get it to act normally?
NOTE: In the image library, the deufaults of ALIGN MIDDLE, IMAGE SIZE LARGE changed from ALIGN MIDDLE and LARGE 450×350 to NONE and SMALL???

Are you trying to edit from your WordPress.com account or via the traditional WP Admin Dashboard?

I an editing from the WordPress on my website account. For ten years, I got the icons regarding editing. Last week it changed, now I get 1/2 of the icons (top half) and have to click on ToolBar Toggle EVERYTIME I want to edit a page in order to see the second line of the icons (text color, indenting, etc.) for editing.
I cannot figure how why, all of a sudden, the edit screen pops up but without all the icons showing.
Any ideas appreciated!

Maybe you have cookies turned off? It should remember your settings each time. I am adding modlook to this thread to have a staff member take a look for you.

Hi @pliles, it sounds like you’re having multiple changes here, some to the way your theme is handled and some to the way your editor and customizer are behaving, right? And these seem to be changes to things we haven’t been changing recently.
Could you get screenshots of what you’re seeing now and upload them via wordpress.com/media ? Then update us here.
Also, please let me know whether you’ve had any changes to your browser, and when things last worked the way they did before.
