Editing my sidebar

  (Contempt theme)
  I would like to add the calendar widget and remove meta. But when I go to widgets, I see no place where my existing sidebar can be selected/edited/anything. There’s just a blank “Sidebar” box at right. If I put the Calendar widget there, it shows up on my blog but the original sidebar is gone.
  There’s something very fundamental that I’m missing here.

  Well, I guess I don’t feel as dumb as I feared I would. Not like there was a button staring me in the face that I just failed to comprehend.
