Editing of posts– inserting “more…”

  • Unknown's avatar

    How does one do it?
    I went to edit
    Brought the curser to the desired point, clickedbutton for — insert more
    More.. sign came on at the chosen place, but the post below this sign did not hide as it should have.
    Why?Is it because my post was jpeg image?
    Can some one please tell me how to do this?

    Can we have a link to your wordpress.COM blog please? We cannot help if we cannot see the post you are talking about.

    It only hides on the main page of your blog, not in preview or in the single-post page.

    Did you remove the more tag?

    Yes , seeing that hiding was not taking place, I deleted the more tag. It was after the 2nd picture, or a line or two thereafter.

    With the more tag, it has to be on its own line so that it does not separate opening and closing HTML tags or strange things can happen.

    Open the post for edit, create a blank line between the jpg images and then put the cursor on that blank line and click on the more tag button. After you see the more tag appear in the editor, then click “update” to save your changes. Now go to the main blog page, do not use the “view post” link as that will take you to the single-post page and the more tag does not show on the single post page, only on the main blog page. I’ve never had any issues with the more tag and it should work just fine.

    Hi,

    This MORE tag drove me crazy, too.

    It used to work months ago. Then weeks ago, I wanted to use it again. Always on a blank line, just as you said, thesacredpath. But no way to split the post. Last try was about a week ago. Then I used the NEXT PAGE tag.

    @ctaposh, you are very welcome.

    @mclearskin, earlier I did several test posts using the more tag on a couple of my test blogs and had no issues so I’m not sure what to suggest for you.

    Again though, if you hit the preview or view post buttons from the editor after inserting it you will not see the more tag since those buttons take you to the single-post page, and the more tag will only show up on the main blog page.
