editing problems
-
i’m having consistent problems using editing function for posts. i create the post in Word and then use the paste from word tab (which is supposed to strip eliminate formatting issues). but then when i save draft and preview, the formatting is screwed up, eliminating the spaces between lines. it’s entirely inconsistent, though. sometimes i have to create spaces while in edit mode, then save and it looks ok. when i go to edit something else later, everything reverts back to original formatting with no spaces between lines. something similar happens when i try to insert photos.
there’s got to be an easier way to post from a word document in a simple, efficient way that maintains the integrity of the original. is the problem one of incompatibility with the theme i’m using? i tend to edit in the visual mode rather than html.
what do you suggest?

Whenever the paragraph formatting goes wonky, in the visual editor select all the text in the text box and then from the format pulldown at the left end of the lower tool bar select “paragraph.” That should straighten up the paragraph spacing.
One of the recent upgrades that Moxiecode did to the TinyMCE editor had some serious problems, and there are still some of them around unfortunately.
Also, go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click save. That should help to keep other types of HTML formatting issues out of the way for you.

One other thing I’ve found, is that if you do the paste from word via the button on the toolbar and you have extra spaces between paragraphs, just switch to the HTML tab, wait a few seconds and then switch back to the visual tab (after making the change at settings > writing) and it will usually straighten things out. And here is a support page that explains all the different buttons on the visual editor toolbars.

Thanks for this. I know that I am not the original person who asked for help but this helped me as well. I was having the problem of too much space. This saved me a lot of work.
