I am a newbie to CSS, and find it like all things confusing at my age… I have asked the help/support team many questions and they say can’t be done. I read in CSS that is can. Want to eliminate widget 2, and widen widget 1 for starters. So looking for first step(s). Cannot locate BROWSER WEB INSPECTOR TOOL?? Browser Safaris. MacBook Pro platform. Site is a BLOG. Haven’t done anything for over 2 years. All help appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, on the Browser Web Inspector, the Developer Menu has to be activated. See this short screencast which explains how to activate the Developer Menu in Safari and a short introduction to the web inspector.

Can you give me a bit more of an explanation on what you are wanting to delete? I’m only seeing a single sidebar on the right of your pages with a single widget in it.

First off thank you for responding. I just turned on the Developer Menu… precisely why I couldn’t find it I guess. What I talked to WP about was how to make the widget size bigger, smaller or have it not reserve space in post. I like some posts with one column widget, some with two and some with none. Especially a one column widget placeholder ONLY for a vertical gallery of up to 4 images of good size – hence a wider single column widget with no widget 2 placeholder. I would also like to chang color of text background from white to something else harmonious with each posts content and feature image. Little things I can do as I learn. again thanks again!

  • @ngruma these changes are possible with CSS, just quite complicated. It may be outside the scope of what we can offer here. But to start:

I like some posts with one column widget, some with two and some with none.

Which posts would need which configurations? Would that be based on a tag within the post, or some other factor?

And would you be changing the background color individually per post, or also based on a tag?

Thank you for the response! The one or two widget construction would be by category and or tag only. The color changes would be uniform with text background/font color. Also embedded fonts (static for all) would be able to be addressed by font style/size/color… If it is all too much I’ll just leave it and continue… I have spent about five hours now with CSS, especially in a CSS validator and “Publication” has over 1200 errors according to validation… So I don’t know what to think or how to address…
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • Okay, which categories or tags would require one column, and which would require two?

Sorry for the tardy reply. I think I would prefer to address the font and color changes first as all categories NOT fully named at this time. Is this possible as a first step?
If I must define categories – here is the shed…
One column – full width widget display – Travel, Food, Lodging, General

All other post categories can utilize/live with current default 2 widget layout. I can omit widget 2 and still be in good shape.
    Thanks for all your input

im trying to add white space at the top of the theme can anyone help

  • I did some digging, and in your theme it would likely be a bit complicated to change the full background color based on category. You could change the background color of the content itself, but it doesn’t look that great. I don’t recommend it with this theme. But the large image at the top should be a great way to give a look and feel to each page.

  • @offkilterdigital can you start a new thread? You aren’t using the Publication theme.
