Editing Scheduled Posts
-
I’m going absolutely mad trying to edit an already scheduled post so that an image opens in a new tab instead of the same window.
If I edit the post to have the image open in a new tab there doesn’t seem to be any way to save it the edit. If after I edit it I click Schedule then the post is scheduled again but the changes aren’t saved.
If I switch to Draft Mode, I have to unschedule it, edit the image, reschedule it, and close the page, but when go to Posts/All Posts and open the page again the changes have been lost.
What is the point? Why bother with this block editor. It doesn’t work. Sorry, I’m venting, but seriously… it doesn’t work.

Howdy –
Which site are you working on? Let us know the post title as well so we can take a better look at it.

I haven’t seen the issue you’re referring to, but we’d be happy to help you troubleshoot if you’re willing to share more details.
We’d need a link to the site. And you mentioned you were able to schedule the post, just without the change you wanted, otherwise you had to set it back to drafts. Staff can see the drafts if you’re willing to let us know what the title is.

Can we take a step back here and try to separate the scheduling issue from the issue of not being able to open images in a new tab?
I have created a draft page the admins should be able to view:
https://russontheroad.wordpress.com/?page_id=5232The top image was not set to open in a new tab and immediately below it is a screen capture showing the operative settings window.
Below that is another copy of the first image that was set to open in a new tab and you can see the operative settings in the screenshot immediately after.
I copied the code for the two images from the code editor window and compared them to each other using https://www.diffchecker.com and the code for the two images is identical. I see no code such as “target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” specifying that the second image should open in a new window.
I have not been able to add any pages or posts to my blog with the block editor when I want images to open in a new tab which is essentially every page I author. I have had to revert to the classic editor in order to make images open in a new tab. In other words, setting images to open in a new tab does not work for me using the block editor and this renders the block editor useless.

Sure, we mainly just needed a link to the site and a post title.
I took a look what you’ve got. Would you be willing to try this? Click the image, click the link icon, then click Media File. Then save that. That _should_ open in a new tab by default. Can you add one more image to the test post to confirm?

That works! Yay! Thank you!
I have to say that the necessity of adding that Media File choice was not at all clear to me in the tutorial at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/.
Live and learn.
Thanks again.

Ah, thanks for that. It might be a new option, so I’ll pass that feedback along to our docs crew.
How about the scheduled post thing now? Is that all cleared up?
