  Are we able to make basic changes like adding an author byline to posts when we’re using a theme that doesn’t default to this?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  You can’t edit the php code on a WordPress.COM site

  You might be able to add the Author with the CSS upgrade (part of the $99.-/yr package) – also many themes automatically display Authors when the site has more than one author posting – add a second author to your site and make a post and see if you get the display for free
