Editing speed becoming slow
-
I found, page editing or writing speed becoming too slow. For example, pressed letters appear on screen with a significant delay. Questions: Does the repeated use of complex blocks (Columns, Layout grid, Media & Text and etc ) on a page affect the speed of editing? Maybe, I should use simpler blocks like paragraph?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
That’s a great question. If you’re using multiple heavy load blocks, like the Image block for instance, galleries, Media and Text block, or indeed side by side content like columns and grids, this can slow down your editing speed.
Just to check, do you find that your editing has slowed down across several browsers, or just one?
Let us know, and we’ll be happy to take a closer look :)

Thanks for the answer! So far, I’ve been trying to create pages with complex blocks and have been surprised by the slowdown in editing. So you helped me save a lot of time!
My browser is Google Chrome.
Let me ask one more clarifying question.
Going forward, I need to create long pages with lots of text and few illustrations. Does this mean that I should try to use mostly paragraph blocks and less complex blocks on the same page so I don’t run into slow editing in the future? Or is it even better to switch back to the Classic Editor? -
@tseren I’m not sure which page or post you’re working with, but in my experience, very long posts and pages can slow the editor down regardless of which editor you’re using, even without complex layouts. I’d imagine more complex layouts would make that even slower.
One idea: if the page layouts are better if they’re complex, would you consider breaking especially long content into multiple posts or pages, and connecting them through an index of sorts? That can be easier for readers to consume, too.

Also, if you’d like us to take a closer look, could you send a link to a post or page you’re working on?

Hi, geekinthegirl and supernovia!
It seems, I found my mistake: too many pictures and complex blocks.
Here is an example of one of my “slow” pages: – https://wp.me/P52k4q-dEZ.I accept your design idea: So I have to divide a long page into several short pages and so on. Thanks!
Another questions:
1. What did you mean exactly – index and sort? Are they blocks?
2. Are Paragraph blocks most simple and “fast” blocks
3. I would like to know where I can get WordPress design ideas? Thanks for your time and patience!

Hi there!
I’ll be happy to answer your questions. :)
What did you mean exactly – index and sort? Are they blocks?
What @supernovia meant was to use something like tags on your posts, publish multiple posts so it becomes like a series, and then insert all those posts on a page using the Blog Posts block, which will let you filter posts by tags.
So, for example, if you add the same tag to a series of posts, you can then insert the Blog Posts block on a new page. You can choose that tag in the Blog Posts block settings so that only posts that have that particular tag are displayed on the page.
Hope that helps!
Are Paragraph blocks most simple and “fast” blocks
Yes. If you keep writing, the paragraph block is the default block that lets you add text.
I would like to know where I can get WordPress design ideas?
This one is a bit hard to answer since design is a subjective thing, but perhaps you can look at our theme gallery for ideas? https://wordpress.com/themes

Hi,
I found Classic Block is great for long text writing without creating paragraph block every time pressing Enter. It is simple and most important – fast. So, combination of Classic Blocks with other blocks is best for my long text editing (slowdown) problem. Are you agree?
-
The “best” option for you depends on what you find most suitable for your writing style and workflow. If you prefer using the Classic block, then that’s the one that will work best for you! :)

I got some good ideas to speed up the writing process.
Here it is in short:- For text writing use mostly classic blocks
- Divide a long page into multiple pages.
- If you use pictures, then first place a copy in a small size, and then link it to the media file of the original picture.
- Do not use complex blocks unless absolutely necessary. Remember, great design is good, but the most important is content!
Thanks everyone!
