Editing the Canard Theme in WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having quite a few issues with the canard theme.

Can someone tell me how I can make my featured posts to be like the demo canard site? I did do the tags however it looks like only 1 post is able to be displayed as a featured post. All other posts with featured tags just show up on the bottom.

Also, is there a way to remove or edit the top menu button at the very top? I now have duplicate menu pages / bars on my site.

It also seems that the right margin is a bit large. Is this normal?

    thank you

  • Hi there – I’m seeing five featured posts on your site, were you able to get the Featured Content area set up how you wanted?

Also, is there a way to remove or edit the top menu button at the very top? I now have duplicate menu pages / bars on my site.

Go into your Customizer‘s Menus panel and open the menu you’ve called “HOMEPAGE.”

Uncheck these two menu locations: Secondary and Social. Save your changes by clicking the Publish button.

The Social menu is meant for links to social profiles only – you can learn how to set it up here:

    Create a Social Links Menu

It also seems that the right margin is a bit large. Is this normal?

The right sidebar is meant to have some widgets in it. Widgets can be handy for displaying extra information, such as a list of authors, categories, or anything else you’d like:

    Widgets

If you won’t be adding any widgets, let me know and we can help you with some code to hide the sidebar and expand the width of the main content area. You can also feel free to post directly in our CSS Customization forum.

Also just a heads-up that since your site has a Premium plan, you’re also entitled to live-chat and email support, accessible here:

    https://wordpress.com/help/contact

You’re welcome to still post in these forums, but those other support avenues may be faster, and you’ll always get a staff reply.

awesome, thank you for your help. Yes, i did figure out the featured articles portion-

I”m actually needing to have my layout similar to the below site, however a little more organized.

few points needed to have on my site –

-how do i edit my menu button at the very top right to have my twitter, instagram, facebook directly links. I can edit the HOMEPAGE MENU however i don’t see an option to replace those “wordpress” icons with social media icons such as twitter, facebook, etc.

-Is there a widget for the right hand sidebar for ads?
-Is there a way to add the Tweet linked in and social media option towards the end of articles. Is that a widget as well?

    Thank you in advance!

To set up your social menu, you’ll first need to follow the steps I laid our earlier:

Go into your Customizer’s Menus panel and open the menu you’ve called “HOMEPAGE.”

Uncheck these two menu locations: Secondary and Social. Save your changes by clicking the Publish button.

The Social menu is meant for links to social profiles only – you can learn how to set it up here:

    Create a Social Links Menu

Until you un-assign your “HOMEPAGE MENU” from your Social menu area, you won’t be able to assign your social menu there.

-Is there a widget for the right hand sidebar for ads?

Your own third-party advertising is only available with plugins, on the Business plan. You can find out more here:

-Is there a way to add the Tweet linked in and social media option towards the end of articles. Is that a widget as well?

Those are sharing buttons, you can learn how to set them up here:
