Editing the footer in non-upgrade theme

Can I put a copyright statement at the bottom of a theme that is not an upgrade theme? I have tried editing the html in the footer but cannot get it to stay. Is there a way to do so? Thank you

Hi Amy,
You’d need the CSS upgrade to add text to the footer of your theme:
Custom DesignIf you don’t want to purchase the upgrade, you could put a copyright statement in a Text widget at the bottom of your sidebar. You could also see if there’s a theme you like just as well that has footer widget areas, and then you could use a Text widget in your footer. Many themes do. Here are a few examples:

Thanks for you suggestions. I definitely want to keep this theme, but it really is infuriating that without an upgrade, I can’t change the footer. I’ll work around it. Thanks for your response, you’ve been quite helpful. Have a good one. :-)
