Editing Themes?…
-
Hey;
Is there any way that you can edit themes without paying for it?
There are themes that I like, but due to my blog being based around songs, it would be much more convenient for the main column where the writing is located to be made larger.
For example, the theme Neat! would be great, but the two side columns are too thick, which then causes the posts to take up more space due to this. And… because they are fairly long to start with, it would be much easier to have them to horizontal rather than vertical, if that makes any sense.
Any suggestions?…

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nick to your blog (as explained in the Sticky “8 Things to Know Before Posting”). Helps us help you.
If by “editing” you mean changing the main column width, then no, you can’t do that without the paid CSS upgrade. You can select a theme with a rather wide column, or a flexible-width theme.
PS Having many page tabs in the header is neither elegant nor practical. Better use the Pages widget.

Hey;
Sorry; its http://www.riiyuki.wordpress.com
Thats correct, the main columns sizing was what I was reffering to.
Im not in a position to pay for anything at the moment, however, if I were to pay for it, is there a limit to the editing in terms of the size?
Ive changed themes now, so it looks a lot better… Just experimenting before with the different options. The catergories are now in a drop list, and the pages are located on the sidebar.
Thankyou for your help!

There is no way to edit the width without the CSS upgrade. As far as width, the only limit is common sense. There are still a good number of people out there using 1024w x 768h monitor resolutions, so if you make things too wide then people have to scroll horizontally to view everything. Horizontal scrolling is #3 on the top ten things people hate most on the web.
Also, from a reading standpoint, very wide blocks of text are much harder to read because it becomes difficult for our eyes to accurately move from the end of one line to the beginning of the next without skipping a line, or ending up at the beginning of the same line we just read. That is one of the reasons I always try to talk clients out of flexible width and really wide designs when I design sites.
