  Can we edit theme templates in wordpress or do we have to download wordpress and host on our own server? I would like to add a follow me on twitter and facebook icon…

  We cannot edit themes at WordPress.com. We can buy the CSS upgrade.

  Good on you for adding the specific things you’re interested in. Search the forums for addthis and getsocial and you may well find that you can do what you want without editing your theme code.
