editing url of new post
-
With the upgraded posting system I cannot find how to edit the url of a post so that it is not unhelpfully long and just the whole of the blog post title. How can I do this and what is a ‘slug’? Preferred the older editing system which was clearer.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
No problem at all. First off, here’s a support topic that has some helpful information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/new-post-screen/#post-title-and-permalink-url
Whenever you see the term ‘slug’ mentioned, that’s just another way of saying ‘the part of the URL that locates a specific post’. So for example, take this URL from your blog: https://oxforddancewriters.wordpress.com/2015/05/07/lunas-dance-project-wandsworth-fringe-8th-may/
‘lunas-dance-project-wandsworth-fringe-8th-may/’ is your ‘slug’, as it helps direct readers to that particular post.
In regards to editing your URL to make the slug shorter, all you have to do is go to My Sites > Blog Posts, then click on ‘Edit’ under the post you’d like to fix.
From there, click on ‘Advanced Settings’ on the left-hand side, and you’ll see an option called ‘Slug’. Just shorten that however you’d like, and be sure to click the ‘Update’ button in the bottom right-hand corner when you’re done.
Hope that helps? Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any other questions :)
