Editing Widget Labels

  It would really help my mental self-organisation if I could edit widget labels such as ‘Text 1’ and ‘Categories 1’ into something more meaningful. Thanks.

  The labels that show in presentation > widgets cannot be changed. That is defined in the underlying wordpress files, which we cannot change.

  The titles that show on the blog pages can of course be changed or defined by entering a “title” in the title field when editing the widget, but the names that appear under presentation > widgets cannot.

  If it can’t be done now, that doesn’t mean it won’t be possible to do it in the future, will it?!…

  Since we’re all using the multiuser platform, I very much doubt it would be possible to change this to personal labels in the future.

  Honestly, though, I also find this somewhat confusing and can’t quite remember what I’ve done in Text 1, Text 2, RSS 1, RSS 3, etc. Since I’m using FF, what I do is open a tab of my blog’s front page next to the tab with the Widgets. That way, I can see what is where.
