editing widgets in new editor
-
In the old editor, the left column has links to edit various features, e.g. Links, Pages, (under Posts) Categories, (under Appearance) Widgets.
In the new editor, I can’t see a link to similar features, e.g. I need to edit my widgets.
This is the only reason I have not yet switched to the new editor! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
From the new editor, you can edit categories, tags, sharing options, etc using the sidebar menu shown here:
However, in order to edit widgets and appearance settings, you will need to use the Customize feature shown here:
That should take you to a URL like this:
https://wordpress.com/customize/dncb.wordpress.com
From there, you can edit widgets. Can you give that a try?
If you’re still missing features, please let me know which ones, and I’m happy to direct you to how to use them within either the new editor or classic dashboard!

It took me a while to discover where that “Customize” feature was; from the new editor, I have to first click on “My Sites” (top left), which basically leads me to what I was looking for, similar to the old “Dashboard”.
I can also get the new “Customize” feature from the old editor Dashboard, by hovering on my Blog name, drop-down menu has “Customize” under “LOOK AND FEEL”.
Thanks, jeremeylduvall – Widgets were edited from new editor (a first for me), so will give new editor another try. Problem resolved. -
Wonderful! Please let us know if you need anything else or if you have any other pain points as you use the new editor/new My Sites page.

Different topic… I should probably start a new thread. How to split an existing Category widget into two (or three) separate Category widgets?
I have WAY too many Categories; there are many subcategories. My Category List includes (e.g.) Rare Birds (many, many bird names), and Locations (e.g. Vancouver, Delta, Surrey … each with subcategories with more specific park location within that town …)
Very useful for searching posts where “Rare bird #7” was mentioned; or when the group previously visited/what happened at “Stanley Park”. However, the widget is cumbersome to use because I have set up so many Categories in one Widget. Is it possible to have two INDEPENDENT Category widgets? I think I spent a lot of time once trying this, but found that each Category widget had the identical contents. Any suggestions welcome. -
Hi!
The category widget will display all of the categories on your blog. There isn’t a way to limit the widget to certain categories. The best option would be to create new custom menus for your categories:
Then, you can group the categories however you would like. After you’ve created the menus, you can use the Custom Menu widget to display them on your sidebar:

Would that work?

Not a problem! Once you have a moment to give it a test, please let me know if that achieves what you’re looking for.
