Editor Breaking Bug: Key Presses Randomly Start Deleting Blocks

While writing a new blog post, the editor randomly decides that my keypresses should, instead of adding letters to a sentence, start deleting text blocks instead. While I can always use Ctrl + Z to bring the deleted blocks back, this has effectively made the editor impossible to use.

There are no known issues with our editor nor are there similar reports. Your problem is probably caused by a hardware issue or the configuration of your keyboard.

@staartmees well here is a similar report for a start. I’ve been experiencing something very similar over the past few weeks, when I’m in the middle of typing it can happen that a bunch of recently-typed text will just suddenly disappear out of the editor at random. Sometimes ctrl-Z or cmd-Z will bring it back, sometimes not. I haven’t yet been able to figure out if I am consistently, accidentally hitting some key combination that would cause this to happen or if it is triggered by something else like the system saving a draft. But I can be sure that my fingers are absolutely nowhere near the delete key when this happens. It seems from the dismissive tone of your responses that you are unlikely to take this seriously but I am telling you as a WordPress user there is definitely something weird going on with the editor that was not happening until very recently.

@zerarch I figured out the cause in my case – accidentally hitting cmd-X, which is quite easy to do on a MacBook keyboard, and which in the WordPress editor automatically deletes (or rather, “cuts” to the clipboard) the current paragraph even if you didn’t select it first. So, poor UX design rather than a bug. But the arrogant and dismissive responses received on this board still motivate me to move away from WordPress ASAP and find a platform with a kinder and more welcoming community.

I find that holding shift+backspace removes entire blocks of text. However, its standard practice to hold shift and backspace for some devices when removing lines “faster”. This is very troublesome. Please remove the feature.
