Editor eats my categories
-
Since the update I’m stuck with the “most active categories” in the blog editor as a default setting. When I go to “show all” I can choose from all categories I use. But — whenever I edit a post or update it, all my chooses are deleted and only the chosen “most active” categories remain tagged to the blog post.
So whenever I edit a post I have to do all the categorizing again, practically from zero. It’s really annoying and time-consuming. I really hate it because it means so much extra work just to correct a spelling. -

I’m having similar problems. I have to repost old categories as if newly added in order for them to show up.

I’m having the same problem, and today my post showed up with only my one default category, it took two edits to get my chosen categories to show up. I first noticed the problem a couple of days ago when I edited a few old posts wanting to add another category to them. It took several takes, too frustrating and time consuming.
On the update in general. Eh! Actually I think I liked it better before. Too many hiccups now.

There’s another long thread about this here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=26283&replies=51It is driving me up the frikkin wall. EVERY post today and yesterday I’ve had to post-Publish edit to put back Categories that went missing.
WordPress, FIX THIS!!!

It seems, because it happened again, that if we edit a post, instead of before it being set as All Categories, it is now at Most Used and if the categories in that post we had are not in Most Used, that it eats up the categories left behind. When it was before as All Categories, the problem didn’t happen because all categories are included.

Make sure to report it to staff. I haven’t seen any staff responding to reports, so by all means send it in as a bug report when support reopens.

I have found a workaround: when you go to Edit the post, immediately click All Categories. Then when you hit Save it seems to remember them. It’s only if you leave it on Most Used that it starts chopping your category list. Agreed, EXCRUCIATING.

I’m having the same issues with every post I edit.
I auto-publish all of my posts. When I auto-publish a post, the tags don’t work and the fix is an edit. So I go in and edit 100% of my posts to make my tags work, which only botches the categories. The whole process is quite a hassle and very, very frustrating to say the least.

This happened to me today. I edited some old blog posts and their categories were almost all deleted.
Looks like WordPress should have done a little more testing before sending the new editing software live.
-
Same issue here: when editing a post, any category listed that is not in the ‘most used’ shortlist gets wiped clean, forcing me to manually check ‘list all’ and click all the automatically unchecked categories again. Most annoying and time consuming.
It is definitely a bug.

No, that does NOT work at all. I’ve tried EVERY damned variation. This is a persistent bug.
I finally, after a post-Publish edit, got all 3 Cats in a post in, then I had to do back to fix a formatting oversight. After Save two of the three Cats disappeared! So I had to post-Publish edit AGAIN!
I’m going to yell at Support about this today.

I have formally emailed Support. I think everyone else should too. If they get several complaints, they will take it seriously and move it to the top of their Must Fix NOW List.
-
We fixed a bug relating to the All Categories being saved properly. It should be working now.
-
Nope. And there’s a new bugaroo.
I now get a *blank* Category at the bottom of the hated and despised default (by *your* choice, not mine!) Most Used list. Pre-checked too!
Beat on that code some more. It still has a life of its own. Recruit zombies to kill it, if need be. I’ll take up a damned collection for zombies because I do NOT want to go through a Day Four of this!

I’m a BRAND-newbie (like in the last couple of hours), so I thought maybe I’m just screwing up. But no — categories don’t work. I created six categories. They all show, I try to “categorize” a post, it looks like it’s working … but it isn’t categorized. If I edit the post to try again to categorize it, my categories list shows two categories with UNchecked boxes, and a CHECKED box on the third (blank) line in the categories list. None of the other categories.
