editor faulty- missing media button

Heya,
I had been travelling and wanted to post and add some pictures after my return. However, now when I want to create a new post, the editor user face looks differently and there are no media options anymore. Like sometimes, following rules I cannot follow, I can drag and drop a picture but most of the times it wont allow me to do that. This drag-and dropped added picture can then, with some luck be edited in terms of adding a caption, but formatting is impossible…. The capiton often gets deleted when i post the article….
Also, I cannot have access to my media list anymore as the menu button at the top of the editor face has disappeared.
Lastly, content simply disappears while writing, being overwritten by following words… what is happening? Has there been an update? What can I do to still use the blog, as at the moment I dont want to use it anymore- working with it is soo inconvenient.
