Editor Feedback

@headphonecommute, right on! I will send you an email next time something new gets posted for testing. Thank you!
-
I would recommend checking the HTML to make sure anyway.
I started my blog in 2007 — that’s a lot of posts to check!!!
Whereabouts? Would you be interested in getting early access to upcoming WordPress.com changes and helping to test? :)
Right now I’m Director of QA for a company called MOBI Wireless Management in Indianapolis. I’ve been testing all over Indiana for a bunch of years now. I’d be delighted to be included in testing early wp.com releases!
Aside: I really like ScreenFlow for screencasts. I’ve tried Jing in the past but didn’t stick to it.
Jing was the one I picked up several years ago and I’ve just stuck with it.

@designsimply
This may be semantic, but if “word count has not been added in yet,” and it was available on the old version, then it has been removed until it is added back in, as are the other features that were available and no longer are, until they get added back in. I find the absence of spell check particularly irksome, because I try to hold my website to a high standard of writing and that is undercut by misspellings. I fail to see how rolling out a flawed product and then going back to fix it speeds up, rather than retards, development overall. As I said in my previous post, it almost always takes less time to get it right the first time. -
Please give back the old version by post shedule the hour format. 930,1015. Not with 2 separat input for hours and minutes.
Thanks -
Hi There, I would like to add my vote –
1. Image Editor – just rotating and cropping would be great
2. Linking to previous posts
3. Spell Check -
@painintheass1976, agreed on the semantics part. I was just trying to explain some of the whys you’ve been asking for. :) Hopefully I’ve helped a little. What I can do from here is help sort out any bugs and blockers (I haven’t seen many of those posted at all as of yet) and then help collect feedback and work to try to put the biggest requests at the top of the list.
Hey @painintheass1976, thanks for being a part of WordPress.com and for posting your feedback. Your username threw me off at first.

So far the interface is good. I have noticed a few things that have changed and I can’t figure out how to find the solution –
I miss the hyperlink feature that displayed all of your previous posts – those are what I most commonly link to, in order to carry on or refer back to previous projects. The current hyperlink editor only lets me paste a link and that means I need to have another window open in my browser to search through my blog for the proper URL for each of my previous posts.
I also can’t get the “right click” spell check to activate. I use a macbook, and a misspelled word will activate the red line, but when I go to “right click” like I used to it doesn’t give me spelling options.

Hello Editor, can I know how to embed image from external URL without having it upload through ‘Insert Media’ or typing in the HTML code? This feature was in the previous ‘Insert Media’ function but seems to be moved somewhere/totally removed.
I am not fond of uploading images into WordPress’ Media Library, as a free user the space is rather limited, would very well prefer the old ‘Insert via URL’ back without having to upload the said image into the media library.
I insert images the same way, so I too would like to have this old feature back. Now I can’t insert an image without first uploading to WP, and if I copy the image url directly to the post, there’s no option to adjust size and alignment that I can find.

Hi, Sheri… is there a way to get to the old editor? I like the new editor, but cannot retrieve old drafts to restore lost content. Thanks… Ted

Thanks so much for the update…Please help!
Really miss the former ease of editing images, via all the easily accessible options that were available when clicking on the edit (pencil) icon.
Seems as if now the only editing that can be done with that icon is to add a caption. Am I correct, or am I neglecting to see/use some other option?
Also, I used to be able to include a link as part of the text in the image caption. Now the url keeps dropping below the caption–floating on its own, within what is the text area. Is it possible to get the url into the caption, as I had done with all the images in the past?
Also, from within the image editor, I really liked the drop down menu for stipulating which, if any, image url would be visible to readers. How can I stipulate that information now?
I read the response to an earlier question about changing the image size. Do I understand that if we prefer a custom size, we no longer enter “numbers,” but now have to drag the image to the desired size?
…Finally, I’m not seeing the toolbar options being referred to in some of your responses to other queries. Does the free version have a different toolbar option for either/both text and media?
THANKS SO MUCH for taking time to answer. …God bless you!

Just written my first post with the new editor and I hate it! WITH A PASSION. Streamlined for writing on an Ipad. I think not! Bring back the previous version … Please.

You’d be getting more feedback if this window was visible from the start? As it is, people are looking for it without trying to click. Even so there is a span of 4-5 seconds before the window appears.
Now I’ve given you my opinion by mail. (Just as well, I think!)

Hi. I had a big surprise last night with the new editor. I write my posts using Markdown in another program and then copy them into the html view of wordpress editor. In the past, this worked great: I would preview and then make minor edits, add tags and categories, and publish. However, the new editor changed all of my beautiful Markdown into html tags when I published last night, which introduced two problems:
1) there were errors in how it rendered a few things that were within code blocks and I had to go back and change those (this is despite the fact that they were rendered correctly when I used the preview function)
2) now if i go back into the editor to revise it’s all html which defeats one of the main purpose of using Markdown in the first place – making it easy to read (and revise) what you already wrote. This is a big pain for me and I hope there’s a way to change it back so that I can keep my posts in Markdown. Thanks.

@fabricalchemist, thank you for the feedback. If you see this reply, would you mind please letting me know you browser version and OS?
@painintheass1976, lol.
@fidaner, may I ask why you mentioned non-unicode fonts? Are you using another language and seeing problems by chance?
@kitchenfoyle, you can embed an image by placing a direct link to the image on a line by itself to insert an image without adding it to the media library. I tested this with a flickr image and it worked in my test.
@tedstrutz, there is a link to revisions if you click the arrow and text just above the Preview button in the new WordPress.com editor. Will that work for you?
@lizzysiddal, I will do my best to try to help if you can please be more specific about what you need. How can I help you?
