Editor Feedback

Two thoughts:
~ It seems like I need to go into my dashboard to edit a photo now. Specifically, I often need to rotate photos. I don’t seem to be able to do this with the new editor. (If this remains the case, I’ll just skip using the editor and go back to working from the dashboard again.)
~ I feel like there is a lot of wasted space at the top where the “Edit visibility” and “Trash can” icons are. Those would work much better on the left out of the way.
-
Ps – I also really like the pencil icon when I clicked on my photos. That quick editing worked well for me. I miss that. It was very conducive to my train of thought. Please bring it back.
-
I’m all for improvements, when needed, however I prefer the classic editor and would like the option to continue using it.
Thank you

Adding my two cents:
After The Dark gives me a second spell check as well as a grammar check the browser doesn’t. I like that feature. Also, I use Zemanta a lot for images and tag suggestions so the fact that it doesn’t work with the program anymore is not to my advantage. While the new editor fixed some of the problems I had with the interim editor I’ll stick with with the Admin editor for now.
-
@designsimply Thanks for your answers! Yes, the search function seems to behave as you described it. And the other point of how to get back from “preview” to “edit”, I found out by trial and error-
-
Very unhappy with this new development. It seems to be a case of “if it ain’t broke, fix it until it is.”
I keep reading references on how one can go back to the “classic editor.” How in the world is that done?
Thank you.
-
My immediate reaction is that it’s not as good but I’m sure as I get used to it I’ll adjust and grow to like it.
Two things though:
It’s annoying that the sidebar doesn’t scroll with you as you scroll down a post and anything you can do to bring back the ability to directly link to your own posts! Having to manually find the links everytime is so time consuming it’s barely worth it. -
@thedailyblabber The advanced photo editing (sizes and links, as well as cropping, rotating, etc.) will be retuning in the future and I’ve added your feedback to our list
-
@rosiebooks2009 for now you will need to manually change the schedule to the current date and time to publish it immediately, but we’ll add an enhancement so we can make this easier in the future
-
@familinks Thanks for the feedback. The HTML toolbar hasn’t been added to the new editor yet, but is on our list for the future.
-
@sillykitty90 You should already be able to drag photos from your computer into the Editor (a drop area will appear when your cursor hovers over it).
-
Glad to hear that the HTML toolbar is coming back. Can’t think why it went in the first place….
Will it be possible to insert photos from other sources (via URL) without the need to upload the image to WP (and therefore use up space?)
Have to say that so far’ this new super fast editor is incredibly slow on an IPad.
-
The posting of images has now been broken and not in a good way. What happened to the ability to click on an image to see an enlarged version of it?
After inserting the image make sure it is selected by clicking/tapping it, then click the link button in the toolbar. A link to the full-size image will be autofilled which you can then save. Once this is added this behavior will return.
Also, there now appears to be no easy way to add Alt Text tags to an image. Why in the world would this be removed? I’d like the ability to add Alt Text back please.
After selecting an image from your Media Library but before inserting it you should see an Edit button in the bottom left corner that will allow you to set Alt text. We will add a way to edit this after the image is inserted in the future.
-
@Kriskarkoski I don’t care about the editing tools so much as I don’t want people to click on my photo and steal it. Oh, btw, since you’re taking feedback, can we get some means of protecting our photos from theft? Like right click protection or something?
-
“Links to that editor, however, are being removed and you will need to access WP Admin using a bookmark or by typing in /wp-admin at the end of your home page link. “
WHY? Why would you get rid of links to the fully functional editor? It’s bad enough that I have to use a bookmark to get to my notifications, but now, I’ll have to use one to edit or write posts? Seriously, WHY? Someone please explain why you would ignore us, foist changes we don’t want on us and take away what we truly need.
As to the new editor, things you have removed that I need:
1. theme-specific features that I paid for with a premium theme
2. spellcheck
3. copy a post
4. request feedback
5. search and link to existing content
6. add a poll
7. word count
8. HTML toolbar
9. the ability to easily manipulate images.Until you have as much functionality in the new editor as you do in the classic dashboard editor, I won’t be using it.
-
@goldfeesh I agree… I need the spellcheck. Somedays you just type and you don’t always catch the errors. I noticed the changes in theme-specific features with one of the last updates. I had to start sizing down all of my banners because they started changing the sizes on me. The word count at the bottom was a nice feature. Reminded me of a Word doc. You knew exactly how many words you had typed for when you were doing a challenge like the 50 word challenge. You can’t add polls anymore? I hadn’t noticed. I’m going to have to go take another walk around our new editor.
I don’t understand why they couldn’t just keep with the original editor we had and just do little tweaks. This big, unannounced, changes are disruptive. I hate having to fumble around the page to post something that should have taken me minutes. It’s a waste of time, and my time is precious.

It seems like I need to go into my dashboard to edit a photo now. Specifically, I often need to rotate photos.
Cropping and rotating is not in the new editor just yet, but I’ve added your feedback to our list for adding it. Thanks for giving it a try!

@superstarnat You can still access the classic editor by adding /wp-admin/post-new.php to your site address and there are no plans to discontinue that editor
-
@scottmac56 You can access the classic editor directly by adding /wp-admin/post-new.php to the end of your site address. You can also bookmark it to go there directly in the future.
