Editor Feedback

    Hi
Thank you, some of the functions are back but it is still clunky, slow and sometimes takes a while to respond, especially trying to get the cursor in the right place. It didn’t publish my scheduled post, I had to do it manually, and the main problem is not being able to go from preview to edit. The post only loads the title and not the body of text.

They’ve been working on this new editor for a couple of years, and each version is worse than the previous one. If you expect this to become anything close to the classic WP Admin editor, it’ll never happen.

I’ve tried clearing my browser and cache on both my devices and it hasn’t made a difference. I’m thinking that since I didn’t have any issues before Tuesday the freezing/crashing has to be related to the new update. Plus the fact that I’m having the same exact problems on two different devices further makes me suspicious. I tried to do a post for over two hours, first on my Kindle, then on my iPad until I finally had to give up,

@designsimply Thanks for your reply. Yes, my browser is updated, so that doesn’t explain the freezing. This never happened in the past, when I did my own regular saves while setting up a post, even though there seemed to be some sort of auto save going on anyway.
And the freezing stopped when I finished the post using WPAdmin.

@cadburypom3708 I struck the freezing problem too, and I use a desktop.

I use markdown for all my posts and now with the new “high speed editor”, my markdown has all been converted to html and shortcodes when I go to edit/update posts. I want my pure markdown back! How do I return to the old editor?
    Thanks!

@notesbytom You can access the old editor via Dashboard WPAdmin.

I just did some tedious footnote coding for about 2 hours. I had been steadily hitting Ctrl+S after I noticed that, just like in Word, and draft is saved. When I went to preview after opening in another browser and the notes didn’t show up I tried to retrieve from what I had saved, they notes were gone.

Moreover, when I got help via chat, there was no record at all of my Ctrl+S saves, along with any evidence of Autosave. Chat help tried to explain that when I hit Ctrl +S and saw the save message, it must have coincided with Autosaves. But then isn’t it amazing that I can generate a coincidence every time I use Ctrl +S. What the <insert profanity of choice> is going on!!!! You’ve managed an incompetent implementation of one of the central functions of a word processor.

We’ve just added word count to the editor. You may need to scroll down to see it:

@toutparmoi I’m sorry you’re having this problem too, but it’s good to know I’m not the only one.

  • Unknown's avatar

@cadburypom3708 I was relieved to see your message for the same reason!

  • Unknown's avatar

So you have added word count to the editor, big deal. It probably doesn’t even work correctly anyway. Besides, what is it used for, so people can get their jollies by counting how many words they type?

Try doing a real fix and trashing the new editor and all the other bonehead changes you made and bring back the stuff that was not broken and works in computers.
This gearing towards mobile devices is worse than a joke. Only two users use tablets to work on their sites with (I don’t see how) and nobody uses phones in that manner, period. It’s physically impossible.

Just for starters try making the editor full size again and capable of posting stuff correctly formatted for the chosen theme. Not all themes are mobile device capable.

I’ve been using the same theme (greyzed) for years now, and now with this update, all of the tabs across my header are messed up. The dropdown tab shows all of the pages instead of it being a dropdown…it’s a mess!

http://www.norfolkcountyhomes.com is my site and I need help with this as soon as possible! I’ve had people actually call me and complain!

My email is (email visible only to moderators and staff) if that makes it any easier for someone here to help me.

Actually I do have one bit of feedback: I wish that when you were actually writing a post, your text went all the way to the edges without the padding. The whole thing feels super cramped especially when trying to place in pictures or write a longer post.

btw, I’m using Windows 10 and Chrome. The same thing happens if I go to my site using IE or Edge.

My top menu is going nuts. Once again wordpress has fixed something that wasn’t broken to begin with. When will this be fixed?

    My blog: http://lovecraftzine.com/

  • Unknown's avatar

    Can someone help?

The menu area drops covering everything and no one can read.

    Any solution?

The blog I need help with is biblicisminstitute.wordpress.com.

@kriskarkoski Just to really make my day, my Plane Theme header seems to have gone haywire. I’m loathe to attribute this to the New Editor, but yesterday I did see, some pages back, a message from someone else regarding Plane Theme acting up.
    Any suggestions?

  • Unknown's avatar

man, have you guys messed up the editing page, in so may ways. you must stop changing things simply for the sake of change.

  • Unknown's avatar
