Editor Feedback
-
I am not an experienced user. I’ve been building my website for about 3 months. I am just now seeing that the editor has been changed.
I can see no way to add a border to an image without adding it in manually which is extremely inconvenient and well difficult.
I keep hearing people talking about avoiding using the new editor. Do I have a choice? Is there something else, an option?
All I want to do is add in pictures and text, and I’m having to add in html to do the simplest things. Like small left justified pictures with a border and text on the right. I now have to go to html mode and find the correct place to add the code for a border and add in:
<div style=”clear: both;”></div>
to get to add the next picture. Here is my website. It’s as simple and basic as it comes, and a real pita to create. I must be doing something wrong…
https://lynxmicrotech.wordpress.com/Someone please help this old guy out… Thanks!

I seem to hear a lot of people complaining about the editor, and I have to agree. I understand that the aesthetics is important to you guys, but it’s not to us. We want functionality and easy-to-use. I love the fact that it loads faster, but other than that, I don’t see too many improvements that I actually care about.
I just want the old editor back. There were glitches with that, but it was better than this new thing that only uses less than have a screen and makes not one iota of sense. As a blogger, I need to be able to see my format and what I see on the editor is not what it will look like on the site and this is really infuriating me. I have to go back into the WP Admin page, and click to use to oldest editor to actually do anything with photos, and make sure my format is correct. This is time consuming and it makes me angrier and angrier everyday.
I picked the WordPress platform because you had more freedom and could use the editor more than the other platforms, but if this becomes an issue my reasons to stay are retarded. Please, please, please change the editor!!
I wish also with the Visual/HTML tabs didn’t disappear upon scrolling down. I tweak images all the time in HTML view and scrolling to the top to be able to reach that tab is a pain.
I would love for the editor to be the whole size of the screen, like the old one. If you could use the old editor and add in the new upgrades (i.e., speed) to that one, it would be perfect. Also, the new ‘preview’ button is moronic. It never loads, and the only way for it to load is to shoot it out into a new tab (which is the old way–and preferable).
Please ask us before shoving the new upgrades down our throats, allow us a preview, and please, please, please change the editor and quickly! The new one is seriously slowing me down, despite it’s speed. If it even loads, that is. -
Hi
The patches for iOS8 are allowing me to use editor again -thank you -but what seems to have happened is that it has returned to how it was before the change, which means I still have the problems I had then, namely, when leaving the Preview screen to edit the same post or to go to another post I can’t load the posts, I have to come out of WordPress and go back in again; often the Preview screen freezes so that I can’t scroll down to read it; I seem to have lost autosave. -
I want the old editor back too. The images don’t link to full size like they used to, and I don’t know how to fix it. No way to add a border to an image. It is basically unusable. Who does this. Who replaces working software with unfinished software and lets the community sort out the problems? I’m unable to work on my website until the basic functionality of the visual editor is restored.

I’m curious, does the scheduling to social media in this new editor allow you to write a different peice of text for each feed, e.g. put hashtags into what gets posted to Twitter, and write more than 140 characters for what gets posted to facebook?

I’m really sorry to keep grumping about New Editor, but when inserting photos it appears to give a Caption bubble, but no way to insert Alternative Text. I could be wrong about this, but I thought Alternative Text was there to provide a description of what was in an image for people whose degree of visual impairment is such that they need to use a screen reader. Can anyone clarify? I know we can still insert Alternative Text via the Dashboard, but how do we do it on New Editor?
Cheers.

I don’t care for the new editor. The edit link function just erased the link I put in. I really don’t like the preview post not being the size of the screen I’m working on. Adding photos was ..clunky. I didn’t like the new resizing process. I still haven’t figured out how to label them. The whole look just seemed cold. Why the heck do you keep re-inventing the wheel?
I’d LOVE to be able to decide which “slice” of my feature photo was highlighted at the top of my post.

I really miss the toolbar in HTML.
The suggestion to switch between visual and HTML in order to get it is LESS streamlined.
Additionally, Switching from HTML to visual always breaks my markup coded in HTML mode. I have to repair it every time that happens. It’s a real pain that the new editor defaults to visual and does not seem to remember which mode a post was last edited in.
<div>This is a paragraph of text
This is another paragraph
This is a third paragraph</div>
Gets munged to
<div>This is a paragraph of textThis is another paragraph
This is a third paragraph</div>
Every time I switch from HTML to visual and back to HTML.
The editor has always done this, which is really annoying. And time consuming.

Hey well done for update. I do think you need to restore the spell check and the tool bar on HTML. Also from the iphone I cant do tagging which is really important. I hope you will bring them back.
Thank you! -
Yes, switching between Visual and HTML editors messes up my formatting as well. It’s maddening! If ever I am forced to edit in Visual, I first cut and paste the entire post (in HTML) into a Word doc. Then I edit in Visual mode. Then I go into HTML, select the revised section, and paste that into the Word doc in the appropriate place. Then I cut and paste the Word doc contents into the HTML editor. It makes no sense that we have to do this.

Hi, I don’t feel like skimming through 18 pages of feedback so…I do not like the new editor. It is too bright for me and I like where everything is, and how it reacts just fine in Classic.
Also, when I click edit on a post or page from the post or page it takes me to the new editor :(. Is there any way for me to get it to go to Classic or could the coders get it so that when you do try to edit from the post/page it defaults to the editor it was created in?
Thank you. -
@tj6james6, yes, but you’ll have to use a user-script. It works very well.

I’ve tried the new editor, and will be returning to the old one. I prefer to work in HTML mode, and there’s no way to insert images there. Inserting images is much more time-consuming now. I want my images all formatted the same way; in the old editor, I could add alt text, size and align images, and add a link in one step, and it remembered the last settings used so only the alt text had to be changed each time. In the new editor, size, alignment, and adding a link are all separate steps that have to be done for each image. There’s also no way to see the exact size of the image when resizing it; I kept on having to switch back to HTML mode to see the size of the image.
Also, I’m having an issue with the tag list in Firefox 42. I can’t scroll through the list of tags; when I click on the scroll bar, the tag list collapses. When I click on it to get the drop-down again, it will be scrolled down a little, but then it collapses again when I try to scroll more.

Well, i have read back through 18 pages of complaints and seen all of the glitches I am experiencing so no point in re- listing them.
The autosave does not work. Lost 2 hours of updating tonight saved and updated using chrome/windows 10. There is NOTHING there.
This editor version has serious flaws – but then you’ve heard that already. -
In answer to a question on a much earlier page, I use the edit photo feature on the old editor a lot. The new editor does not have any of the functionality that I regularly use so having to workaround which is a bit awkward.
Also when editing an old post it would be great to have the classic editor as an option when you press edit.

As I’ve seen others mention, I’m finding that the toolbar doesn’t float when I’m posting long text.
I’m using Chrome and it’s up to date. (Version 46.0.2490.86 m)

I am just learning , and appreciated the COPY post section at the bottom of a new post. Am I missing something? IS there a way to copy an old post (tags / font etc.) that I haven’t learned yet?
