Editor Feedback

    @veryfungi, thank you for the example code. I think your help request is pertinent to the new editor, however, helping you with the specifics would probably be better in a separate thread only because of how large this thread is and the possibility of others commenting in between our comments (basically, it’s much harder to keep track of and we are working on a very specific problem and solution in your case). It would be great if we could move the code discussion for your case to another thread while we work out the details, and your past comments will still be counted here for a request to add back an option to create image borders. If that sounds okay, please start a new thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 and I will find it. In the mean time, I will test the code you provided.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @veryfungi, my last example wasn’t good (I should have tested it better). Please try this instead:

    <div style="overflow:auto; padding-bottom:1em;">[YOUR IMAGE AND TEXT GOES HERE]</div>

    And let me know if you start a new thread. I will reply there if you need to work on other similar specific examples like this one.

    @designsimply Does your comment about adding links to pictures to enable them to be clicked on and open in a new tab apply across the board? I.e. Do I have to do that for every image? Or is there a default setting? I didn’t realise they wouldn’t open up automatically anymore.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @Designsimply

    Ok that works! I used the new editor. Now I have something that at least will survive the mode change without corruption. For that I am extremely grateful.

    If I could add a border with the visual mode I would be a happy camper. Is that on the list to get back or no?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh yea, I forgot about the no link to larger image. I need that too.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks so much for your quick and thoughtful reply to my comment!

    @qveryfungi

    I think that code would work as one of your own tags (with _clipboard_ and _selection_ as variables) with BBCode extra (FF Plug-in) IF that plug-in would work with the new editor.

    @designsimply
    I said the BBC-plug-in worked; I was wrong.
    Code pasted with that plug-in (of course into the html-editor) still vanishes (unless I copy it very quickly with ctrl-C and then paste it again).
    Otherwise it vanishes. Not always, but more often than not.
    Really strange.

    I am using simple tags that are offered via the xhtml-function.

    Some of my own also include simple stuff as &nbsp; – often vanishes – and stuff to help me with pictures and formatting, e.g. <img style="float: left" src="_clipboard_"> - margin-bottom: 3px; - <span style="color:#004654;">_selection_</span>

    It did work, now it often vanishes after a few seconds.

    No need to read all prior comments before posting. :)

    I know, I know. I kinda enjoyed it… :P

    Ah, and finally:
    After I wrote several articles I want to stress again that it’s very annoying that we have to scroll up and down if we’re tagging while writing (or reading) longer texts. VERY annoying. Please please pretty please change that!

  • Unknown's avatar

    huh? Empty code-section – test:

    &nbsp;

    And while I’m at it, I forgot to thank you for installing and testing BBCode Xtra.
    Thank you! :)

    ok, and in that empty space above there should have appered “ampersand en be es pe;” for non-breaking space. :)

    @designsimply Do I have to do that for every image? Or is there a default setting? I didn’t realise they wouldn’t open up automatically anymore.

    You need to add the link for every image, it is not the default. There is similar feedback asking for the opposite if the default is to link the images, so hopefully we can come up with a better solution than setting it one way or the other. I proposed a good solution would be a “sticky” setting that stays set to the whatever you select once you set it. However, a decision has not been made on that yet and I am not sure of the timeframe. I’m sorry for the trouble the change is causing you!

    It’s on the list but was not very high before because of how infrequently usage stats for it were. It appears, even though it is not used often overall, that a few people still really miss that feature though. In the list of requested items in this thread, it is not very high on the list so far in terms of number of requests compared to other things. I will continue to track it though, and I have added a note to the feedback list with your comments noting that you made a request for that feature.

    Oh yea, I forgot about the no link to larger image. I need that too.

    To link an image to the original version, first insert the image then click on it and click the link icon in the edit toolbar.

    @heckenwicke

    This looks malformed to me:

    <img style="float: left" src="_clipboard_"> - margin-bottom: 3px; - <span style="color:#004654;">_selection_</span>

    An img tag should end with “/>” and the “margin-bottom: 3px;” part should not be hanging out there like it is. Is that definitely the snippet example you were trying to use? I think it should be something more like:

    <img style="float: left; margin-bottom: 3px;" src="_clipboard_"> <span style="color:#004654;">_selection_</span>

    Or maybe something I haven’t figured out yet as I’m not exactly sure of your end goal for that snippet yet. Or maybe it was messed up when it got posted to the forums (the parser can be finicky like that). Note: I haven’t tested it in BBCodeXtra yet, I’m just double checking the snippet with you first.

    Since this is very very specific to a very rarely used browser extension, would you mind possibly moving this issue to a separate thread so we don’t bother the rest of the participants on this thread with something so specific? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

    I would much appreciate that ‘sticky’ function. Same goes for uploading images at a particular size (I always have to size down now as I like to embed within the text, whereas before any subsequent image went in at the same size as the previous i.e. Medium). Thanks for the response.

    @chrisandhels, thank you for the feedback. I made sure to add your request to the suggestion list.

    I desperately need the add media button, and the shortlink button.
    I tried to do a post yesterday, and got the new editor. Gave up because I couldn’t add my pics. Luckily, this morning when I opened the draft, it came up with the editor 2 versions ago, so I could do my work.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I wasn’t going to read 23 pages so, sorry of this was already brought up.

    Where is the “MORE” button in edit. I need this to cut the blogs to continue reading. I’ve written blogs with 1,200 words. At some point I edit and add More to shorten the blog. In fact don’t see any other buttons at all. Like of you want to add more pictures, etc..

    I don’t understand changes that make things more difficult for us. What is the point?

    Hello

    I seem to be facing some problems with the new Editor.

    1) Links – Earlier I could easily link to previous posts when I clicked on the Insert/Edit Link button. This feature is no longer available and is making life quite difficult for me especially as I am in the midst of a series of posts and frequently need to link back to older posts.

    2) Drafts – I published a post yesterday (28-Nov) but for some reason it has showed up on my blog with a published date of 15-Nov. Apparently posts are now being published with the date the Draft was begun? This is inconvenient because now my series of posts will get all jumbled up as my drafts may not have been started in sequence.

    3) Images – The previous version allowed us to add borders to images and we could customize width and color easily. I can’t seem to locate this option now and I have to resort to manually inserting HTML code. Something I would rather not do for each and every image. There must be an easier way. I may not have found it yet.

    The blog in question is http://www.pen2needle.wordpress.com

    Would appreciate any assistance with the above. Thanks!

    @designsimply
    You’re right re the missing “/” in the first code. I put it in. It worked anyway, though.
    The other one is a snippet I insert into existing code–

    but all this is not my point, I pasted the codes coz you asked me to.

    My point was:
    Anything I insert via BBCodeXtra (no matter what, no matter if it’s correct or not) often vanishes after a few seconds. Malformed code is my problem, I can see to that, and I don’t need a new thread for it.

    Inserted text vanishing from the template is a problem on your side.

    But I also think there are more important matters (not many people use BBcodeXtra).

    Eg the need to scroll up and down for tagging.

    P.S.

    To make this clear: Me (and many others) are not here to ask for workarounds.

    I appreciate your efforts, I really do, I can see you’re trying to help.

    But me, I need don’t assistance for finding workarounds. I am posting in this thread to inform you what’s wrong with the new editor and to ask for a better one.

    I am happy to learn that you added my concerns to the list; and I’m always happy to learn if needed features are coming back.
    That’s all. :)
