Editor Feedback

@lensaddiction I am fully aware of that, I copy paste imgur’s embed link, and the thumbnail doesn’t show up, leaving it as a http text ‘image from imgur’ or something.
The other problem I think we’ll encounter is the scaling of the image when using these embed codes, it might not scale into paragraph width for wider images.
I was so happy when they added auto save but now, I really miss the old editor.

You know how annoying it can be when you visit your local grocery store and they have moved everything around. Nothing where it should be and you have to ask for help in finding things; well the new WordPress editor is 100 times worse. Now, not only has everything been moved around or deleted but you have to jump through hoops to find what you’re looking for. Imagine your local grocery store: you can’t find the milk so you ask the assistant – it’s over behind the cornflakes (maybe) try climbing out the window along the ledge and in the next window. Still can’t find well perhaps we no longer stock milk anymore – can you tell me what you want it for?

Hi, I’ve just tried to edit a page (rather than a post). Nothing is coming up at all – although I can view the page. Apologies if this has already been mentioned. Too much here to read through.
My site is dartmooryarns.com

A bit of update, as with @lensaddiction I found out they removed the said feature and replaced it with direct formatting just by pasting the image URL into the editor, but yes, it still lacks the feature to put a link/caption/alternate text onto the image without going through HTML.

On the desktop, select the image an image tool should open. From there select the comment icon to insert a caption. I hope this helps.
My comment above pertains the a smartphone.

Change is always difficult, but even as a new user I am definitely missing the old editor. :-(
In order to place a right-aligned picture in a new post that links to a URL (something that used to be straight-forward) I had to open an old post and manually cut and paste in the appropriate HTML because there’s no way to do it in the new editor.
More clicks, more scrolling around, more work to add attributes like categories (and Uncategorized is turned on by default so that I have to remember to turn it off every time?), tags, excerpts, location. Everything is collapsed and hidden every time you start creating a new post, and adding attributes to images is now an extra step where before it was right there.
I know you work hard and try hard to offer an experience that works well for the majority of users, but this is definitely much worse for me.

Hi
Every change is a bit of adjusting, so I get that.
But AM I getting crazy? I can’t get any video embedded. If I hit the add media button and then through URL and I copy the URL it says ‘I am sorry but this type is not comaptible’.
I am Belgian and use the Dutch version so I don’t know whether my translatian is correct.
Am I doing something wrong?

Try this: select the image, getting the image tool. Set the alignment as you want it. Select the link icon on the toolbar to set the URL you want when the image is clicked on. No HTML needed…

Selecting edit at the bottom of the page opens the editor for me. I can edit the page from there. I hope this helps. –jaa

The only option I get for newly pasted image link is an ‘x’, while older image shows alignment, caption, but no URL link for image.

Linking is done automatically, as I’ve just found out, but without going through HTML, you can no longer link the image to a different URL other than the image’s URL itself, and you cannot make it opens in another tab/browser window.
This new UI is utterly confusing.

The HTML Toolbar needs to come back. With this update, you have basically “removed” previously available features with no roll-back capability. I know that the WYSIWYG editor is the preferred way for the larger audience, but for some of us, control freaks, a way to insert an image and/or URL using the toolbar is an important part of our workflow.
Also, how come this didn’t go through a UAT and was just dropped on us, unlike the previous “Beep Beep Boop” editor which was optional. Would have been nice to have an RFC period for a few months before the roll out.
Not trying to be critical here – but I would think this is the type of feedback you would have received during the beta stage.

No I don’t mean “edit image”. In this new editor if you insert a picture directly into the body of the post these four squares show up around the picture and you can adjust the image based off of that. However, that is not the case when you insert a featured image. Those four squares never appear around the picture, and since you guys took away the “scale” button if an image does come into the post so big that it cuts pieces of the product that’s being shown off then there’s nothing I can do about it.
What can be done about this?
As I said before, I run a fashion blog so if I post a picture of a purse for example and the picture is so big that parts of the purse are cut off and there is no way to adjust the featured images size, then I can’t use the picture.
Just to be clear I can adjust the size when a pic is inserted into the main body of a paragraph just not when it’s inserted as a featured image like I used to able to do with the scale button in the old editor.

Just my two cents, but I personally would prefer to return to the editor page that was in place two years ago. It was significantly more user friendly and I didn’t have to look under an endless string of drop down menus just to find what I’m looking for. I would rather have it all laid out in front of me than have to go hunting for it.
