Editor stopped working?
-
I’m having this problem too, or something similar. Whenever I try to add an image, then hit ‘Save or Continue’ or preview the page, the image disappears. It’s really annoying me.

Just try to not post anything for a few hours until this is fixed. But if the problem is with the editor and you lost what you had, right click on your mouse and keep on going back to see if you can get to where you were before. Or quickly check your RSS feeds. Or if it’s an older post, Google the url of that post and check the cache.

AHH. Omg. I typed for 30 min. strait and then I lost it all when I pushed save!! Omg. This really stinks. I didnt get it so I pulled up the strength to type it all again and guess what? Same thing. I couldnt copy because of the dang wordpress thing where you only do copy on the code which wont work. :(
Edit: I also tried to go back but it was at the way before I edited it. :( :(

We’re just volunteers here in the forums, but I’m certain that staff is working hard to get the problems ironed out.
-
Yep, and now it’s not allowing me to save any new text I write. I hit ‘Save and Continue’ and it just deletes everything I wrote previously. This is getting ridiculous.
-
I don’t know if this will help anyone else, but I couldn’t make a change to an existing post using the editor no matter how many times I tried. I was using my Firefox browser. So I figured it couldn’t hurt to close that and try another browser – in this case my AOL browser of all things. And it worked! No idea why or how, but posting this here in case it even helps one person – until the real fix is in!

I would hold off working with the editor for a while. Perhaps as a temporary thing you could write in Notepad or in TextEdit or another text editor so that you do not lose any work, and then when staff get things ironed out, you can transfer it to the editor, format it and then save it.
I would also NOT make any edits to existing posts you have already published as they may end up disappearing from the system.

After reading what thesacredpath just wrote, I want to amend my suggestion to say “Don’t try editing an existing post unless you save it elsewhere first.” But of course, probably best for the system and your sanity to just wait or edit off-line as he said and then post when all is clear. Just wanted people to know there may be some browser related stuff going on too.
-
The other thing I’ll mention again is a suggestion to think about an offline editor such as BlogDesk (Windows only), Windows Live Writer or Ecto (Windows and Mac). It gives you the added benefit of having a copy on your hard drive as well as on the wordpress.com servers.

OK, my editor is still not allowing me to keep any changes I make and this is going on hour four. What’s the deal? Is this still a universal WordPress problem or is it just me (Who’s there? Stop staring at me!!) and I obviously need to up my dosage of Depakote???
Is it safe to assume that WordPress knows of the problem and are working on it and things will be rectified shortly and when that happens all will be right with the world again???
Thanks. I just want to post a few things…I’ve got tens of readers counting on me.

Rest assured staff is working on it. See my posts above yours and a couple more up for a couple suggestions to ease the pain.
-
-
1. Click “Edit” on existing post. The body of the post in the text editor is blank.
or
2. Post a new post. Body of post is not saved.
or
3. Post a new post and click “save and continue”, post body is deleted and text editor is blank.
concise – WP staff said that the editor wasn’t saving the post body to the database on save.

@tellyworth
Would it be useful to know which browser, version and operating system the people are using? -
It might. We rolled out a fix earlier. I just tried all 3 of jamesewelch’s suggestions and everything works perfectly for me. Whatever the problem is, it must be more specific than just those steps.
Try clearing your cache. If it still occurs, post back here with your browser version and the exact steps you followed (i.e. “I clicked on this tab, then this box, then typed this, then clicked that button, then looked at this page and saw x”).
