Editor Suggestions

without the page landing us back at the top of the page
should have been, “without the submitting of a comment, which is an update, landing us back at the top of the page.” Same holds true in forums and chat rooms where you are allowed to edit or delete your comments. Edits and deletions don’t have to send you to the top of page.

Looks like this is the “constructive suggestions instead of rants” thread, so I’ll comment here.
Re: the first thing from auxclass at the start:
1. Pin Save/Preview. Yes, PLEASE! On long posts, frequent saves prevent loss of work. Making it awkward to save probably means less frequent saves. Any software should encourage saving, not discourage it. This is pretty horrible design as it stands now. Also, if I’m working with a table in a long post, I want to preview to see if I got it right (because I’m not very good at html). Now, I have to scroll up, preview, then go back and search for my place again. Not efficient at all. However, I understand the problem. If you pin everything on the sidebar (Publish, Tags, Categories, etc), not everything would be visible for me, so I couldn’t access everything. Not good.
So…. I’d like to suggest an alternative that, for me anyway, would accomplish the same thing. Simply add Save and Preview icons to the editing toolbar at the top of the post. I don’t mind scrolling up to Publish a long post. I only Publish once. It’s scrolling up to save or preview that zaps me. I’d learn to use them rather than the Save/Preview options in the Publish box. So if you don’t want to pin the Publish box, I can live with it if you give me a way to Save / Preview without scrolling.

Second comment, re: #2-4 from auxclass at the start of the thread.
2. Don’t jump to the top after save.
3. Keep place when switching between visual and text.I’ve been living with these, and can continue to do so. But these would be definite improvements. Can’t imagine anyone would complain about these.
4. Pinning tags / categories. I would much prefer this, but in my last comment I noted the problem with pinning too much stuff on the sidebar.
But here’s my problem. I write a long post, and then I think about tags. So I scroll down through my post, looking at what I should tag. About three pages down, I find something — and then I have to scroll back up, add the tag, scroll back to where I was, find my place, and scroll down another page, find another tag, scroll up to add it, scroll back and find my place, etc. Blech. I know you discourage us from adding too many tags, but this is carrying it too far. :)
Is there anyway you could give us a button that pops up the tags box when we click it? I scroll down, find what I want, click the tags button, enter the tag, then scroll down some more?
