Editor – WordPress.com different to downloadable version?

    Hello all,

I was using wordpress.com for my blog but I wanted to do more customisation than was possible. In the end I decide to host the blog myself and so downloaded the latest versio and set it up on my own host.

I’m very happy and all is working well. However, the editor that is used in the wordpress.com is different to the default one with the latest downloadable version of WordPress.

In the wordpress.com editor, the image button allows me to set the size and borders for the image, whereas in the downloaded version I can only set the alignment. I also don’t have the “Visual” and “Code” tabs in the downloaded version – instead there is a “HTML” button which isn’t as nice to use.

Does anyone know the difference between these? Is there a plugin I can apply to my install to make the editor the same as the one used by wordpress.com?

    Many thanks,

    Jim

P.S – “use the visual rich editor” is checked in my user profile…

Well no responses so I continued searching. Didn’t find the one that’s used by WordPress.com but I found Chenpress which is even better.

I do not use the visual rich text editor but this I do know. WordPress.com MU has features that are not available in the wordpress.org downloadable blogs. They are completely different software http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1
In fact the wordpress MU downloadable software is not exactly the same as the wpMU we have here. Ours has extra features made specifically for us here.
I also think you should be asking your support question in the other forum http://wordpress.org

I have one blog in each platform and I have seen the same differences you have seen. I remember something about downloadable versions being slightly older, so not so pimped out. There are a billion plugins though, which you can find on your dashboard or in their forums. Lots of news over there.

Just for reference, please give us more than 49 minutes to see a response. Some of us have things called jobs that don’t allow us to be here 24/7. :)

WPMu uses the 2.1 alpha code. Regular WP is at 2.0.6 currently.
