edits not displayed after updating post

Lately I’ve been making edits to posts, saving them and previewing them, all seems fine. However, when I go to the site via chrome, it seems all I see is an old, or cached version of the page. This old page persists despite reloading the page numerous times. This seems to be only happening to my wordpress.com blog, but not other websites.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

This indeed sounds like a cache issue. Have you tried logging in using a different browser or clearing your browser’s cache to see if the issue persists?

Let me know if it does.

    Thanks,

i don’t think this is a simple cache issue, i’ve cleared it, to no avail, it happens only on wordpress and seemingly only or most on certain pages, especially when editing this page https://audio-file.org/foobar2000-vu-meter-skins-gallery/

  • First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Occasionally, and when only viewing a post in edit mode, I notice that I can save the post and I’m prompted to save the post upon exiting, however, I’ve made no edits. I don’t know if this is related in any way.

  • Posts will auto-save. How often is detailed here: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/page-post-revisions/#saving-and-autosave

Occasionally, you will see the option to save because you’ve made edits and the auto save has not yet run (but will). Clicking on “save” isn’t necessary, but can be clicked if you wish to save your work in that instant. It’s a great question! But, this isn’t related to the issue you are experiencing.

We do need your clear feedback on these two points please:

    1. Have you tried logging into through a different web browser to see if this issue persists? If you use Chrome, have you tried through Firefox for example?

    2. Have you followed the exact steps my colleague provides above to clear your cache and cookies?

Looking forward to your reply to those two items. :)

alright, I’ve done as suggested and there seems to an improvement, however, I still get messages saying, there’s a newer version or I need to save changes even though I’ve made no edits or changes.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for that additional information.

I’ve taken a look at your theme, and it looks like the Piano Black theme has long since been retired – which is why this isn’t something we don’t see that often.

Retired themes are no longer supported or fixed when problems arise.

You may wish to look at an alternative theme.

I picked out this one, which is perhaps similar: https://escutcheondemo.wordpress.com/?demo however, you may wish to check out this selection here: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/right-sidebar+blog

Please note that, when you switch themes, you will no longer be able to return to Piano Black as this is a retired theme.

    I hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for your help, and thanks for your suggestions. I’ve had a look but it’s to early for me say if this theme, or any other, would work for me. I’m afraid to mess with this, since it’s working reasonably well. So I’d need to migrate some stuff successfully first and I have no idea what I’m doing in regards to themes. At this point I’m reasonable satisfied with the appearance, nor do I feel competent enough to migrate to a new theme or new look. How difficult would it be to duplicate the appearance with a new theme?

  • Not too hard at all. If you want to try a new theme out without it affecting your current site, I would suggest creating a test site, making it private, and importing your content to that site to see how it would look on a different theme.

In order to move your content from one WordPress.com site to another, please visit our support pages on exporting and importing your content. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
