  I would like to ask whether the domain .edu.mt can be transferred to wordpress.com?

  That TLD cannot be transferred to WordPress.com. Only the TLDs in this list can be transferred and registered here:

  Domain Pricing and Available TLDs

  However, you can keep your domain with your current registrar and point it to your WordPress.com site by mapping it. Here is how that works:

  If we buy the business package is it still not possible to transfer the TLD?

  Correct, this is regardless of your plan. Only the TLDs listed on the page @fstat mentioned are available to be registered or transferred to WordPress.com.
