Hi,
There are many ways to improve your WordPress knowledge.
Firstly, WordPress comes in 2 flavors, the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WordPress (org) project at https://wordpress.org This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you are interested in learning to use the WordPress (org) software, you can find resources at: https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and: https://wordpress.org/support/
If you’re new to having your own site, have a read through this Get Started page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/start/WordPress.com has lots of great (and free) learning tools. This includes blogging courses: https://en.support.wordpress.com/blogging-u/
Video tutorials can be found here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorialsAnd more info on learning WordPress here:
Hope this helps :)

@catkinson – In the long haul, part of great support is developing your own voice rather than using someone else’s (in this case my “2 flavors”). :) You have the experience and knowledge to create your own pre-def on this. Thanks and cheers!
-
Hi @justjennifer – thank you so much for your advice. My query is, the “2 Flavors” is directly from the WordPress support document – is it okay if I use that?
-
Hey @catkiinson-If you want to quote directly from an official support guide, you can also include a link to the relevant support guide.
However, what you’ve used above:
WordPress comes in 2 flavors, the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WordPress (org) project at https://wordpress.org
is a direct quote from my own pre-def that I’ve been using for years. If that’s now being used in an official support guide, including what I added in parentheses, I’d be glad if you could give me a link. Thanks!
-
Hi @justjennifer. I got the “two flavours” from this support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
It comes in two flavors: the fully hosted WordPress.com, and the self-hosted version, whose software is available for free at WordPress.org.
You’re completely correct that what you’ve put in parentheses is absolutely your own. My apologies for using it and I’ll endeavour to work on my pre writ responses on this topic to make them more my own.
Thank you for taking the time to point it out and I’m always happy to continue learning :)
-
LOL :D We have been here so long that apparently, some phrases in our prewritten responses are showing up in some support docs.
Please don’t use someone else’s pre-defined replies, but feel free to make your own if you find yourself answering the same questions repeatedly. https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-com-volunteers/#forums-community-standards

No worries @catkiinson :)
@timethief – I’m starting to feel my age. :DApologies @rp727906 for filling up your inbox with off-topic replies. It’s been an education for us as well. :)
If you have any other question about how to get started with WordPressdotcom (where we are) /grin/ after reading the resources that @catkiinson linked to above, it’d probably be best to start a new forum thread at https://wordpress.com/help/contact
Cheers all!
