Effective Marketing Strategies For My Blog

  I was wondering if anyone could assist with a few pointers on how to effectively market a Blog. How do the top 100 Blogs on WordPress get to the top 100? How can a newbie effectively drive traffic to their Blog? I’ve read a few things online in reference to Pings and Tags but nothing that really points you in the direction of Blog Marketing Mastery. How are Pings used? What sites can you go to set up Pings? How do you effectively use Tag words for a Blog? Any and all assistance is appreciated.
