Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
-
When I test my website speed here:
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
I receive the following warning:
“Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 3 blocking script resources and 5 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:

http://use.typekit.net/…dce84cbbe4b3e299f26e4c252634f199693d439e”I receive approx. 50% rating for mobile and 75% on desktop. (you can confirm this yourself)
I am especially concerned regarding the mobile rating, because Google’s recent announcement that takes affect on April 21st, 2015 states mobile-friendliness “will have a significant impact in our search results”:
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.ca/2015/02/finding-more-mobile-friendly-search.html
My website is totally responsive and passes the “mobile-friendly” test here:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
and it passes the “Mobile Usability” test available with Webmaster Tools.
However, if this algorithm update also places a premium on page speed for mobile devices, I fear we may be in trouble!
Is WP.com addressing this issue? Did I say I am concerned? :-)

I looked into this for you and we’re already highly optimizing the JavaScript we’re serving to you by concatenating all of the multiple JavaScript files into a minimal number of compressed files served from a CDN network that serves the file from a datacenter close to you. If you open up your browser’s developer tools, You’ll see there’s actually not much of a delay.

Don’t want to hijack the thread, but I tested mine today and received the same message. Wasn’t sure if there was anything I could do to enhance mine.

Hi lizthefair,
Thanks for your response!
I agree that there is NOT a performance problem. It’s one of the main reasons I chose WP.com to host my customer’s business websites… low overhead, very good performance and excellent price. (As an aside, I don’t think WP.com promotes this enough, I’ll provide further explanation if anyone is interested.)
However, my concern is that if Google, for whatever reason, is having a problem properly reading/processing/evaluating our websites AND the poor ratings are part of Google’s ranking factors, this is probably something that should be addressed. We have to play by Google’s rules.
Just my 2 cents. :-)
