eliminating comment section

  I can’t seem to find a way to eliminate the comment box on my site;

  From what I have been reading I should be seeing a discussion box on my edit page that will allow me to uncheck the comment option;
  but all I see is a ‘sharing box’;

  On the edit page, go to the upper right and click “screen options” and activate the discussion module. It will then appear down below the text area on the editor page.
