Eliminating lines and moving text

    I’m using the afterlight template and have my page just about how I want it (though I haven’t gotten the DNS figured out, so it’s not live yet). There are lines under the menu bar at the top and above the “Blog at wordpress.com | The Afterlight theme” that I want to erase. I’m not planning on posting anything to this page, so need to get rid of the “welcome to your wordpress site” and would like to move the “Blog at wordpress.com | The Afterlight theme” to the very bottom of the screen, otherwise it’ll hit at about the middle of the page since it has no text.
    I’d appreciate any suggestions, I am VERY unfamiliar with CSS.
