Hi there!
Generally speaking, you can add a domain connection first, add the email service’s DNS records, and then start the transfer process to minimize disruption to your email services. Can you tell us who your email service provider is? If it’s one of the common services (like Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook, etc.), we can help with setting up the DNS records.
For other service providers, you’ll need to ask them for their DNS records and add them to the domain on WordPress.com, ideally before you transfer the domain.
If you’re open to switching your email service provider, you can look at our Professional Email service, which is free for the first three months.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to learn more about the site you’re creating with us. Would you mind telling us more about your new site? What’s the site for, and what features do you need on the site? Based on your site requirements, we’ll be happy to share specific guides and suggestions and help you accordingly.
Thanks!
