Email A Blogger
-
Hi, it’s a coincidence thhat the last forum post asked what it did. I read a story from a private blog, and I made this account just to get in touch with the person who wrote it. It has a pretty obscure name in a story that seems to have a few things in common with the real person whom I know with that name. It’s Donna Levin’s blog. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure what you’re asking: if you’re invited to view a private blog, you should already have the contact information for the blogger, or you can just leave a comment.
If someone forwarded you a story from a private blog, that’s a big violation of privacy and I don’t think the blogger will be happy to hear from you. It means they can’t trust someone. People are very protective of their private blogs.
-
I googled the person’s name, and their blog popped up. There’s no need to be defensive. I’m asking: is there a way to email a Donna Levin?
Maybe I didn’t search her correctly and she doesn’t have a private blog? I’d just like to send a friendly email.
-
I’m not defensive: I’m protective. Believe me, people who have private blogs get very upset when they learn that other people have somehow gotten their stuff. If you want to talk to her, you should know that in advance.
Because of the privacy settings at WordPress.com, unless you’ve been invited to view her blog you won’t have access to her contact info. I’m afraid if the email didn’t pop up in the google search, you’re probably out of luck. I know staff won’t pass along messages.

OK. Yeah, there wasn’t an email address on her site. I had no idea that this community felt ‘protective’ about their writing. What are you protecting yourselves from? Spam? I have a pretty benevolent agenda here, I think the staff would pass something for me, can you give me the staff’s email addy?

No, you said it was a private blog. Those are not visible on the internet except to people who’ve been invited. As far as I can make out now, you’re not actually talking about a private blog, you’re talking about a personal blog. Totally different animal. People have private blogs so they don’t get fired or divorced or thrown out of the family when people find out what they really do…etc. Lots of reasons to be private, and it’s only respectful to respect that.
If there’s no contact info on her site, you could just leave a comment, assuming comments are enabled. If there’s no contact info and comments are not enabled, then it’s pretty clear she doesn’t want to hear from other people.

Private means “private”. It means the blogger has selected only to have their blog to be visible to users they choose and it means wordpress.com respects that choice. Please look at this page.
-> Options -> Privacy
Privacy Options
Blog visibility:
____ I would like my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Sphere, and in public listings around WordPress.com.
____I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors
____ I would like my blog to be visible only to users I chooseOnce the blogger chooses to make their blog private any attempt to use their url will redirect back to the wordpress.com page. Private blogs do not have rss feeds.
Any blogging they have done previous to making their blog private is in Google’s cache. In time the Google cache will be cleared.
If you know the blogger then email them. If you don’t know them – you are out of luck.
Support is closed weekends with the exception of urgent matters. You can contact support on Monday using the feedback button on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page. Alternatively the you can email support at this domain dot com.

Try it out with a support request from this forum or an email to support at wordpress dot com. Keep in mind they are closed ‘officially’ until Monday morning again.

I’ll save the email.
We do not pass on any email / contact requests / anything else.
We do not reveal email addresses or any other contact information. The only search I would do is using Google. Even if I knew their name, if their details were not in the public domain I would not say.
Privacy is important, far too important.
(and with respect you have no information at all in your profile so you are wanting information without revealing anything. Not that it would make a difference – I’m just making the point)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. She has a comment link after all. So, if you guys want some closure, I commented giving my email, and that’s that.
The story is about my mother, and her name’s in this blog-entry-story that’s really innocent (no worries of anyone being fired or divorced) which my mom’s mentioned before.
And I’m not a writer, I just made this so I could contact the person, so that’s why there’s no info.
